this is nice..

http://www.trancetutorial.com/Scales%20Page%201.htm

http://www.trancetutorial.com/Melody%20Writing%20For%20Beginners.htm

i would like to see a tutorial..written or as a video..on how to proceed lets say 4 sounds so they perfectly fit together..

like

1:kick/bass (wich notes/wich scale)
2:synth sound (pad)
3:synth sound (lead/main melody)
4synth sound (lead/counter point example to synth sound 3)

if one could come up with something nice and general enough to work on further..it would be a great thread!!

cheers

a long long long time ago they invented this thing called accidentals to solve problems like these. so you are not restricted by your scale or key. just be careful and dont abuse accidentals.           http://www.youtube.com/user/trawhi (tutorials)

Hi!

Whenever I need to know anything about a scale or chords I go to this site:

http://www.all-guitar-chords.com/scales-to-chords.php

In that particular section you can convert a scale to the chords that fit in it, but there are also a lot of other different and more informative sections, check it out!

i like using the phrygian mode tastefully in combination with composing in natural minor.

for example, most of my basslines will be written in natural minor... but occasionally a melody line will include the flattened 2nd to create tension and intrigue. it's a twisted, evil sounding scale... i enjoy it a lot, but not too much.

same with harmonic minor... tastefully it's awesome. but all the time? sounds really cheesy imo.           Dance, even if you have nowhere to do it but your living room. ~Kurt Vonnegut

i always use this tool, called "Scalefinder".
Its with Keys (I find the Guitar stuff confusing^^), shows you all keys or chords of a given scale and you can even try out chord progressions with BPM of your choice.

If you use ableton, put this MIDI FX Rack in front of any of your hosted instruments.

That way, you can play perfect phrygian, jazz, bebop, etc. scales simply by rolling your face across your MIDI controller.

Anyone know where I can find an offline version of something like this? Would be super handy, but I dont really have internet at home, so an online resource doesnt help me much.
