Composing Beats in Cubase

I'm brand new to cubase, and I've figured out how to import audio and create a beat with them, but I'm wondering if there is an easier way to do this? It's kind of a pain to have to drag every single audio file and line them all up in the sequencer to create a beat. Is there such thing as a beat VST, like the redrum in reason, or can you link multiple audio files to a midi track and compose it in there? I also want to be able to change the pitch of a specific audio file without bringing in a modified version of the original. In fruity loops you can just open the piano roll and select a note, but I can't seem to figure out how to do this in cubase.
This is my first post and I'm extremely new to all this, am I making sense?
Thanks in advance!

couple of good options for you:
Rewire Reason into Cubase and continue to use Re-Drum (i still do this).
Use any of the following VST's: Battery 2, Kontakt, Guru.

"or can you link multiple audio files to a midi track and compose it in there?"

yes, you have to use a sampler (or rompler http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rompler )

Battery is a classic
Dr008 is also a classic
Kontakt is real nice
Sampletank 2

there are of course more, and some good freebees are probably out there aswell..

Those are some great ways^

You can also rewire FL studio into Cubase.

As per what you asked for midi tracks...

Waldorf Attack is a Drum Synth vsti ( VST means Virtual Studio Technology and it's the FX and processing programs. Such as reverb, delay, compresors, Limiters. VSTi means Virtual Studio Technology Instruments and those are the instruments like keyboard synthesizers, drum machine programs etc, such as in fl studio that would be the Sytrus, 3xosc , other programs would include z3ta+ , Refx Vangaurd, Absynth, Waldorf Attack, etc.).

You can create a midi track, open up the piano roll , (aka Key note editor in cubase , look under "Midi" in the top menu of cubase) <-- ;-) and different keys are assigned to different samples for Attack...
Drums, Claps, Snares, Hats(open and close) etc.

I'm assuming you know how to connect midi and create the part in the arrange window in cubase for the vsti.

Cubase you can "Bounce selection" of an audio file. So you can create different takes of the audio sample. You then can find them in the "Pool" in cubase. If i got that all correct that is how bounce works.

I'd suggest you to look into samplers:

-fxpansion guru
-sampletank
-ni battery2
-livecut vst

imo guru is the best thing for beats. check out the groove function, beats most sequencers in timing. kinda comparable to a mpc.

well..thats the way to do it, in my opinion..
the cubase is the best sampler you have!
give every drum a diferent channel with his uniqe settings.
learn how to use cubase more, make your self short cuts.
with off line procces you can alter every piece of audio - reverse, time strech, pitch shift & more
good luck

you can do it the same way like in fruity, but you need a vst drum sampler. there is quite a bunch of freeware samplers to try:

i prefer battery2.           http://myspace.com/voxproject

Samplers (combined with a midi editor of courso) are definitely very handy if you are making rhythms so you should really try those, my favorite drumsamplers are Kontakt 2 and Linplugs RM-IV.

ALSO... try using a groovebox for creating drumloops, i find using a groovebox much more intuitive then drawing in notes in cubase but it depends on what sort of loop i'm making whether i'm using a groovebox or Cubase. I use the Massive groovebox that comes with Reaktor 5, but you could also use Micro-Tonic or something else.

Start Cubase..then start fruity & Voila its re-wired..

Another way to do it is to use Fruity as a Vsti in cubase..Make sure you have your fruity .dll files in your cubase vstplugins folder..then just open it as a vsti inside cubase (F11)           http://www.soundcloud.com/getafixmusic
