what could help you is to hear first the melodies and ideas in your head and work on translating them (what i do often is finding the rythm of the melodie first and then the notes),if you start with empty head and have no ideas means no inspiration it s pure luck and randomness hoping for happy accidents and sometimes none happen .
you could just load a arpeggiator or step sequencers and experiment too could make things easier

what you said is true. . but i cant call it luck though. because luck cannot be predicted but in this case i exactly know when those 'happy accidents' are gonna occur.

i really can recommend this book for beginners in music theory..im working through it..its not too easy even not that hard and its really fun to read and gets you further imo..
