What all do you need the gate to do???
I use the dfx midi gater and the advanced midi gater (can't remember where I got it from though, but it's freeware)
The advanced midi gater is a gater with the option to use the gate signal in conjunction with a filter.
An Eagle may soar, but Weasels don't get sucked into jet engines. |

Does anybody of you know a midi gate that can trigger 32th notes? The ones I know are always fixed to max. 16th. I know I could set the BPM to higher values but I'm a snob ;-)

Yeah, basically you insert the MIDI capable gate plugin (all three of these are) on the VSTi audio channel, then you create a MIDI track, and route it to the plugin. The MIDI then attenuates the audio signal on that channel according to your MIDI parts.
MIDI itself is a serial protocol, so gating just consists of sending a MIDI Note Off message. It's not quite the same, and depending on the device you're triggering (and its envelopes, etc) you are not guaranteed to get an abrupt cutoff.
Therefore, MIDI triggered Audio gating is the proverbial b0mb.
Also, some synth manufacturers are waking up and realizing that at least half or more of the world is using their products for some sort of trance related material (not covering Huey Lewis on keytars,) and so they are including gates in their softsynths. See: refx Vanguard. No bounce necessary. Maybe next we will get some decent arpeggiators. |
