Heyas,

My brother purchased Tracktion the other day since both of us are interested in trying to put out some of our own tunes.

The help I wanted to ask for is basics. As in where/how to start for making psy music. Things like the layouts of even simple kicks/snares etc, instruments used and ways of building or adding in new sounds etc.

As for the program itself, thats my problem to learn and Ill do it by trail and error and search for guides. Although I am searching now too on the question Im asking but if anyone could point me in the right direction that would be cool.

Thanks in advance.
Aaron.

That is the most common question here. And I'll tell you, your at the right place. Most of the knowlage you want has already been asked and answered right here at IsraTrance, just search thru 10 years of topics...

Ahead of you are alot of hard work, frustrating attempts of crap, hours of trancing yourself out by listening to the same beat 1456 times and at least ONE YEAR of making NOTHING, musicly speaking.

Use this forum wisely, ask for more specific questions and no matter what you will get more information your were asking for.

DON'T EXPECT IMEDIATE RESULTS. If you are looking into trance for money or a profession, forget it. It should be more of a hobby and later if you have the quality and the skills, try to sell and make some money.

Well, to narrow things down a little is there many places that give diagrams aswell? Pictures will help it sink in faster for me, even if its a different program it should be similar enough for me to understand.

StraydoG - mate listen to psy and you will get some ideas.

first of all psy is played loud so you have to make it sound good loud and it should also sound good on low volume hehe

just start off with learning some chords and a scale.
this is good for making a melody.

the bass should play the root of the melody, for basic stuff, sure you can play F as root and a Am(chord) will fit.

So lets say you make a simple bass+kick combo
one and two and three and four
the kick on "one" the bass on "and" and so forth.
try and give the bass different velocity and different lenghts for a nice groove.

put the bass in A(for example) find a kick that sound remotly good with it, you can always pitch some cents up or down to make it fit better, the idea is to find the place where they meet eachother and sort of hum together.

now you got the basic kick and bass combo, go on and add some cool sounds also in the note of A,
a scale that i often play from is Melodic minor its
A B C D E F G it cant get much simpler than that. you can make a whole lot of melodies from that...

as the root is A it will fit with your bass..

try and make a pad in A
make some percussion( percussion also has a tone)

if you now build your track in A melodic minor you can fiddle around and it can get good if you add more sounds and make a good structure, sure its nice with a change of tone, maybe go lower or higher. like from A to F or A to E, dont forget to transpose the melody..
