The review:
Couldn't find if this was already reviewed or not, and I thought this little compilation was worth mentioning here, so here goes. Starting off with track 1, Marc 'O Tool serves up his fat hit Passenger again, previously released under his Ballroom alias. A fat overhaul, with a harder beat, better percussion and an overall fatter effect. Perfect track to get things moving nicely. Next up is the Groove Express remix of Capture's Mars Attack, which reminds me a lot of Help Me, by Timo Maas ft. Kelis. This has a similar atmosphere anyway, but no vocals and it's more progressive sounding. If that's the Groove Express influence I don't really know, since I don't know the original. Good track though. Track 3 then, and this is completely my style of progressive. Fat bassline and funky percussions with a great little padsound along the way. Groovy! Track 4 then is by Groove Express (former Prisoners of the Sun) and what a track this is! To me the highlight of this album. Great laid back sunny vibes as the title would suggest. This is great to just dance or relax to. Excellent stuff. I hope we'll be hearing more of this group in the future. Fitalic serves up another track in their well known hard funky style and this is no exception. Grooving along we have Export Audio and this is funky stuff. Nothing special though, it's a track which just grooves along and then it's on to: Track 7. What a smasher this is again. Wasting no time Oliver and Peter kick it up from the first second and won't let your body go till the last. I like this one. On to the final track, which was a serious letdown. Martin H. just doesn't do it for me in this track. It's repetitive all the way and doesn't really change at all. Just beat, hi-hat and percussion. I thought we were past this stage of minimal stuff, and this isn't even good minimal in my ears. No pad, no melody, nothing. Oh well, after all those good tracks what could you've expected?
Conclusion time: Seriously good stuff. Except for track 8, this compilation stands like a rock. Kudos to Groove Express & Prawler for (in my eyes/ears) the best tracks. Especially track 4. Great sunny vibes... oh yeah! Off to play that one again.
