Remember when Twisted released on minidisc?

Trying something new isn't a bad idea but delivering digital media on a physical substrate seems fruitless. I guess we'll see.

I think it's an interesting idea, but I doubt it will be a success. If the bonus tracks won't be released digitally elsewhere, I think I'll end up buying both the CD and the compactstick though.           DJ pr0fane (Iboga Records) | Multiphase

Everyone is missing the reason why they're doing it. Look at what's different on the 2 pages:

There's more content with the compactstick. Wheter or not it will sell more, it's more than just the cd on a flash drive.           http://soundcloud.com/ascensionsound

looks terrible, more expensive. Why would I want to see a video of Astrix when the msuic is so terrible already?           I hate you, you hate me, we are all so hap hap happy!

some new DJ CD players have USB inputs that can be used with this kind of media, so it is playable at parties .
And the Data bonuses can also be cool if you include samples or special treats for your fans.

But still I prefer CD's .

How can you spin a compact stick ? it's not round and you can't reflect light of it to put in annoying people's eyes... it's boring.           http://www.myspace.com/vectroelectro

with all the downloading, the quality of the original CD is much better:)

Dude, regular, original CD = 16bit 44kHz wav
And I think they copy a waves on stick, not mp3

It's not a bad idea, it's better then download. With buying of this, You will get an original album cover and case, usb flash drive to use in other purposes if You want and of course, a possibility to have much more stuffs included on a drive like videos, some bonus tracks, or to spin a tracks on some new players directly from the flash drive

do you get the same cover that comes with a cd or something different? is there any artwork on the stick or it's plain?

other then extras if "a music stick" doesn't have anything to be recognized as collectors item (like cds or vinyl records) it will fail imo. From the other hand I can see usb stick becoming medium of choice for dj's in the near future.           DJ Sets: http://metatrance.org/category/mixes/machi/

from Vibrasphere album compact stick:

Quote:

'The compact stick version of the album includes four bonus tracks as well as remix files and music samples for four different Vibrasphere songs which allow you to make your own remix of Vibrasphere music!'

Audios in wav and mp3 Format.

I think this is a big promotion step, remix files are Vibra's best move ever           www.soundcloud.com/float

The extra stuff is a good idea. A lot of techno/house producers actually sell remix parts on Beatport. If the promotion of the medium is strong, there is a chance.
Other than that, until CDJs that are in all the clubs, support compactstick, the CD is still king.

What I do with my CD's is the following - EAC -> WAV -> FLAC , put the cd somewhere and use the flac file for playback:) much faster access to whatever you need via media library. CS seems like a good step - a bit more expensive but potentially much more interesting material could be included - either remixes, remix files, interviews or sex style videos (though I'd prefer real pr0n instead hehe) ...and since the opportunity to buy the normal CD is still available I don't see any problem:)

One more thing which I think matters to some extent (or actually would matter after some time) - normal audio CD is limited to stereo 16bit/44.1Khz , while on USB flash the only limitation is the total amount of free space... dunno if someone will take advantage of using 24bit sound and/or higher sample rates, but seems quite possible:> (dunno how dj's gonna play such files though )

Personally I'm goona check the Vibrasphere stick, as the other 3 are not very appealing to me...

p.s. I see on psyshop two more albums are coming in this format - Tomic & SUN Project... let's see:>           lost & profound

Anyone knows the relative cost to release on compactstick comparing to CDs (vinyl is out of the question nowdays anyway).
