Heh... ok, I've looked on a few threads and I've seen Te_nTe also offer good advice... not all grumpy! Seems I was a bit too harsh. I'm sorry. I know I can sometimes take things too seriously, and maybe this is one of those times.

Peace... It wasn't a serious proposal for me to stop; I like this place too much! I think it's ok now, I've calmed down. I was hungry and Psy-Forum.co.uk is down at the moment... that's my excuse, anyway... |

to get back to the subject,
try using a maximising plug in(preferably WAVES L1 or L2) on the master instead of a compressor.
This will take the mix level to the max( Zero in the meters of course) and will make the track ready to go. |

I wouldn't want to mix with a limiter across the masters though... very much a one-way street; easy to over-cook the mix. A little compression, maybe, like I said, but I much prefer to leave maximising for post-production. |

well colour me purple, a limiter is the only thing i put on top of the final mix (very slight) along with a small 5k eq curve.
will you two pro's hash it out and maybe give us some insight? i can see colin's reasoning, but like the sound from the limiter. is it truly subjective or are there some rules to post production that might be inhibited by mixing with maximiser/comp/limiter?

no need to hash out anything - each to his own.
but -
i forgot to mention, that we use the Maximising plugins only for party and general use - when we make the final mixes for an album or compilation,we dont put anything on the master, and indeed leave that for the mastering session.

I still can't open waves on logic!
I wish I could, I've tried many diferent versions but ecery time I install I get error when opening logic saying "wavelib.0.dll not found" or something like that, but it is installed in logic folder....
They all open and work fine in soundforge...anyone with similar problems?
I have other friends using logic, they have same problem also... |
