Commercialization of Psy-Trance – Ups & Downs

Greetings.

After many good and constructive argues in many threads, I’ve came up with this idea, for us home listeners, DJ’s, producers and others, to point all ups and down of this bad/good thing.

Ups:

There r many things to consider. The fact that DJ’s and Artists are starting to get more known, and their work is getting more recognized.
I mean, these guys work their asses of, just so that you and I can listen to good music, and have fun in parties, while they r “working”;

If it’s commercial, it’s easier to bring artists, by the fact that expenses r not as small as we think. Hotel’s, Air Tickets, Transport, P.A (a good sound system is not one of the most affordable things), good place for the party, etc. If u make a party to many people,. Those things r much more easy to accomplish.

For getting commercial, trance is getting to more small places around the world. Places that had never even heard about Psy Trance
People r starting to find out that raves, r not JUST about drugs and liberty. But also about freedom, respect, and just dancing like nobody’s watching and having fun;

CD’s sales: Thought this is a tough matter, some people just prefer to show the artist some appreciation for his work. Although MP3 is getting each day stronger, CD sales r growing a bit. U can see that, by the amount of different CD’s in Soundshop’s Catalogue, and many other sales spots;

I saved the best, for last.
Psy-Trance is getting known.
Now this is tricky. So I’m gonna link this matter, to the DONWS part:

Downs:

Well, if this is starting to get worldwide and spread among many different cultures, bad things can start to happen.
My first party was 5 and 1/2 years ago (as u can see, I still remember perfectly. Also the line-up). And it was a terrific experience. Which lead me to be a Psy Trance Lover.
But from the past 2 years, my list of BEENTOPARTIES, keeps just getting smaller. And also my will to attend these parties;

Commercialization X MP3: Tricky. People might thing I’m being paradoxal ( ) but I’m not. There is no better way, than MP3, for an artist to get more known. Cause MP3, goes EVERYWHERE.
Despite the fact, that CD sales r decreasing, many artists do believe in MP3, but as a tool of picking up the tracks u like, and than buying original CD’s, to support the Artists. I believe that someday, Music will be sold, not in CD’s, but separated tracks, like BEATPORT.COM. Cause many times, u HAVE to buy a particular CD, just to have, 3, at most 4 tracks u REALLY liked...

Police: Parties getting more often and more familiar, cops around the parties, just waiting for a reason to AT LEAST kick u out. Totally against the Underground movement we used to have a few years ago.

Well, I can think of many other Ups and downs, but I rather get back to work, and let u guys help me with some ideas.

LET’S RAISE FROM THE ASHES THE UNDERGROUND MOVEMENT ONCE AGAIN!!!

Hoping for some good and constructive ideas.

Best Regards to all!

Couldn't Agree with you more.

Now, just one thing,
The sound itself is changing too. It's shaping itself to adapt this commercial way of trance. Sure some artist are still making that powerful and smooth sound I like, but they are running short on men.

ups = maybe spreading the music might catch up some good people.

downs = repetitive/trendy/almost-dance music.           https://www.facebook.com/BiijahRecords

This is not true. Online stores are "forced" to have almost all releases in their catalogs, so they buy around 10 copies of some releases, just to have them on their catalog.

Yes, and one of the problem is that on our lame superstar scene it goes even to the CDJs at parties... If we want to be taken seriously we need to get rid of the mp3 on the dance floor. Crowd deserves quality.

I personally think the way is to go back to the private parties. Expect free parties from me soon.

Greetings,

I was watching TV the other night, and I realized that EVERYTHING is getting commercial.
Adds, shows, MOVIES (OMG this is a matter that I could just go on, and on if I wanted to). Everything is made oriented for a specific crowd.

There’s no more creativity.

Music in general, is getting very commercial.
Take Brazil, for instance. We used to make the best music in world, appreciated worldwide (MPB) with artists such as Chico, Maria, Caetano, Tom Jobim, Vinicius de Moraes.
And take a look at today.
MC this, MC that, Axe Music, FUNK (I won’t even discuss this matter) sertanejo and afins.

Capitalism is taking control of the wolrd.
Or we play the game by its rules, or we get "squashed like a grasshopper" (from a movie).

Couldn't agree more.
I used to be a MP3 man about 3 years ago. Until the day I saw the difference of MP3 to .WAV! Disastrous.
And do believe the crowd diserves quality sounds.

Totally agree.
Let us know when u come up with something.
I'll try my best to attend, even BH being a bit far away.
And who knows, I'll try to provide such an oneinalifetime experience like a pvt free party.

Best Regards!

Up: If the movement didn´t became comercial I would probably never know trance...

Now I can enjoy the pvt parties...

Down: Even I already can see the loss of quality in the parties...
