I actually read this post somewhere else....i'm just putting it up here as i felt it really is a very valid question. (ya i'm pretty dumb to think of such questions myself )

how does colloboration work (huh, that's the title)....when we sees Xenomorph vs. Mac E or say, GMS & Skazi how exactly do both artists work together??

Do they divide the parts among them (melody for u, percussion for me..! ) or 1 person does something, the other person changes it saying this would be better or do they just go ahead & do it becoz they know all??!!!

would like to know & artists' reply to this would be very insightful...cheers           Interviewer: "So Frank, you have long hair. Does that make you a woman?"
Frank Zappa: "You have a wooden leg. Does that make you a table?"

I did a fun collaboration afew months ago. We took turns "driving". Him for 20 minutes or 16 bars (or close to that) then me, then him, then me. we did this for about 14 hours. It worked really well, and was lots of fun.

zooter there is nothing special you will find about collabortaions unless they are doing some fetish porn after each track session or something...

2 or 3 ppl, get together... and 'sit on a track'
one does this, the other does that.... one more one less - then it's vise versa....

that kinda work.           Crackling universes dive into their own neverending crackle...

I think theres no secrets behind it, u already said it all yourself....

Some artists divide the work, like one does percursion/drums other synths for example...

But I think most times its just everyone toguether doing everything, dividing the time of who's "in charge" with the mouse hehe

About changes from eachother things, yeah I bet theres loads of arguments sometimes, deciding what stays and what goes, hehehe, but in a healthy way

best way is to take a flight and sit with him on some hamburgers...creating.

I can't fully collaborate with someone if he's not here with me in the studio.           Crackling universes dive into their own neverending crackle...

one possibility i read somewhere is that you create something & send ur project file across, the other person modifies it / adds more bars etc & sends it across to u again....goes on & on.....don't know when it'll stop though....probably when something like this happens

i once read an interview with simon posford where he said that once he was doing a track with younger brother together they made it like this. one was infront of the computer producing while the other was sitting in the same room and playing video games. after some time they switched places.
well, that'd be one possibility to produce a track together...i guess there are thounsends

I know there was a whole chill-out project made trough the internet, a whole colaboration album with like 15 ppl, without anyone ever meeting each other while album was done,

I don't remember their name, but they played in chill out in boom2002, i'll try to remember the name later...

I'll second that SuperGlue... I went into a collaboration not knowing how to use the sequencer we chose to use and not only did I learn a great deal about sound quality and Fruity loops, but I taught my partner a few things too... Collaborations are great...           An Eagle may soar, but Weasels don't get sucked into jet engines.

I've read that Simon and Benji played against eachother and whoever lost had to do the arrangement, intro, outro or whatever...
