subscribe to the mailing list (which one? go to steinberg page with the SDK d/l)
and there's many free plugins with open source -
get them and start rolling.
begin with effects - it is much easier.
also u better contact Dreamer for GUI designs...
i think he can do it not bad.
then go into vsti's - this is a very complicated thingie.
u maybe wanna get dx SDK too.
(i'v no computer now, so i can't help u)

coding vst´s is not that easy since it requires knowledge in programming in c+ which isn´t something you just do, but since vst is an open source platform steinberg has put all the dev tools online for u on their site. i´m sure they also have tons of info in forums regarding vst so just take a look around the net and see for yourself.
good luck reading through it |

monno, you're right about the fact that one needs to know how to code in order to code (btw u can code VST fx/instruments in Delphi),
but you're little bit wrong about "VST is Open Source", because if it were "open sourced" linux/bsdi would already have had a VST host + set of plugins... its component vstgui library is closed proprietary binary stuff... so you're wrong.
about the forums ... they don't actually exist, the communication is done via mailing list.and the dev tools don't exist either - the VST SDK is a library+ headers and examples package u add to your development tool (MS Visual Studio for win, Code Warior for Mac)
just F.Y.I.

Take a look at Synthedit.
www.synthedit.com
Not really programming your own VSTs but it lets you build synths and effects in a Reaktor-like environment. When you are done you have the option to save the patch as a VST for use in your sequencer. Works very nicely too. It is Windows only though.
Cheers
