hi,

this questions is basicly directed to the pro psyproducers...i rather get pro advice than from anyone(no offence)

i wanted to know if it was better to make some elements in psytrance mono rather than stereo or stereo rather than mono ( leaving out bass and kick ) but like say...hihat,lowhat,some other perc line...does it help to make any of these a specific mono or stereo to clear frequencies up more ? or is this all something i should just test by ear ?

hope all understand wat i mean !

thx

Test everything you can.

I'd rather use mono samples for percussion yes.           Crackling universes dive into their own neverending crackle...

its not much a question of frequencies, because that is obtained by EQ its a question of stereophonics and how we are used to receive those signals , placein stereo channel if u want hi hat to the left or percusion panning from left to right etc what u should worry about is if your final mix is phasing in mono broadcast, mono still is the number 1 type of broadcast worlwide

ITS ALL MATTER OF TASTE BUT YOU HAVE TO CONSIDER THIS:in the stereo world the panning determines the coloration( sonic texture) of the instrument.
1if you pan your instruments you`ll have more ambience, space and dimension rather than presence
2if you pan the high freqs increase L or R and between 1.5khz-4.5khz decrease in the center,so you have to do some eq if you pan.
3you must separate your monmitors 1.5 meters with an angle of 60 degrees form the point of the listener
5 a virtual monitor in the center origins if you pan L and R.

its good to makes diference between audio tracks.
one track is centerd stereo, the other mono and the third is doubled mono.
thats makes wider range in the image and also help get a better mix between parts.

I think it helps to think about what sound you're looking at, and what you want it to be in stereo for. Consider a snare or a hihat - in 'real life' these are pretty much point sources, and any stereo component is generally only going to contain room ambience or reverb. Unless you specifially want to use the ambience you might as well use the sample in mono - and it's good to check whether any recorded ambience or reverb really is in stereo, as many libraries contain sounds which are dual-mono (ie. both sides the same).

If you're using stereo percussion sounds in mono, you should also consider shortening them to get rid of recorded ambience, unless it's specifically part of the sound; this will keep the mix clear when it comes to adding your own.           Mastering - http://mastering.OOOD.net :: www.is.gd/mastering

The snare sounds good mono with the kick and sometimes we use even a closed hat in mono to fill the middle part of the sound in the hihats or drumloop           Boom :)
