ok, so if you have a sample you've ripped off a movie or a video online that has music playing behind it. how would you pull the vocals out so that you have a clean sample???

try notch filtering...it is possible the fundamental frequency in the person's voice takes up a small portion of the spectrum...if you can isolate that, you can notch most of it out....if their voice is all over the place, then you cant really cut it out...
by notching, you will lose frequencies within the music too, but you might not lose all of it.
assumption is the mother of all fuckups. |

waves has something called x-noise, if you can find a piece in the sample that has only the background-noise you want to remove, you can let the plug ´learn´ this and then take it away from the sample. not really sure about the name of the plug but if you have the waves package you will find it. can do miracles sometimes. i guess it works best of the freqs of the noise are very different from the part you want to keep.

try using a plugin that supports mid/side processing, like the brainworx stuff. since most of the background noise is generally in the 'side' signal, you can filter a lot of it out leaving just the vocals in the 'mid'. |
