well it will depend on how bad is that hiss you're refering to, i guess... but i normally eq to take out some freq or some unwanted freq thats causing noise...try to eq and take out some of the hi freq...

There is a plug in from waves called x-noise. That should do the trick.

Check out the Noise Reduction utility in Cool Edit Pro - the best noise reduction there is           A man with a "master plan" is often a woman

Try waves x-noise or rip from the DVD and extract only the center speaker for vocals or only the mainfronlft and right for only noises without vocals..

Hi subconsciousmind!

How does one extract only the center speaker? Does that work with all DVD's and out put only the vocals without any of the background music/noise?

thanks!

The only difference will be to select center from the source, in headache.

Believe it or not, the smooth/enhance filter on sound forge is actually very good with this... sometimes I wonder if it is just tricking me though because when I normalize there is still a lot of hiss there, albeit reduced. Part of my job involves digitizing analog audio tapes so I have tried just about every noise reducing filter in all the pc software (cool edit pro, goldwave, etc.) all the plugins I could get my hands on, all kinds of EQ/graphic EQ/multidimensional EQ, etc.. none of these work. I guess the reason why true noise is so hard to clean is because it is by definition random and too chaotic to search for digitally?           "Creation is an expression of God searching to unify with the Source." - Rabbi Simcha Weinberg
