Hi there ^^
A simple question ^^
Everytime i want to accomplish some reverb on samples it sounds tin.
Can someone give me a good hint about having a broad and effektive reverb without making it sound like a tin can ??
I tried reverb a and reverb b from cubase without success. And i dont get a clear reverb with roomworks from cubase.
I need an advice about the settings to make with these plugins or a hint about a good plugin i might use.
Thanks in advance

did you think about using an ir-reverb? logics space designer for example doesnt sound thin at all...
another good tip is to process the reverb inside a bus till it sounds good to you

cubase's reverb a and b are excellent... they are our "bread and butter" reverbs. its all in how you use them and on what.
try to fiddle with the mix dry/wet on them, roomworks is another excellent reverb.
to me its mostly about the use and the delicate balance when using reverbs. it is such a versatile effect that it can be used for many tasks.. not sure what you are trying to achieve with it specifically.

it take me also a lot time to find some satisfied reverbs and settings, this is imho a hard choice.
at the moment i stay with Arts Acoustics Reverb for very long reverbs, Sony Oxford (imho very good) for drum ambiences and Reveb A mostly for Synth
btw. it's much harder to emulate short rooms than large, cause there are much more reflections, so take a good one for the drums...

for short rooms i use CSR reverbs from IK, very good stuff. Roomworks from Cubase 4 is also amazing. |

Sony Oxford, Magix VariVerb, CSR and PSP PianoVerb for percussions.

Most reverbs are pretty good as long as they are sent the right part of the signal for the job and are EQ'd correctly afterwards. Less is more also. I always say if I can hear the reverb I'm using too much. You should hear a hint of what you are sending through it more than just a load of air. |

Assuming that you want all of your sounds to be "near" and "clear". But that's not the case at least 20% of the time... those times you obviously have to hear the reverb in order to perceive the "distance".
Also you can add nice "tail" to some elements using spring reverbs... so it is not always the case that less is more and when you need more it's good to know what reverbs can make that more sound right. IMO Oxford reverb is quite "safe" when you have to use lot of reverb in the mix.

Reverbs should most of the time be EQed as well. The purpose of a reverb shouldn't necessarily just be to make something sound big and spacious, it should be to give it a position on a virtual stage in your virtual room. As I like to say, everything should have a well defined purpose.
If you roll off the high end a bit, it gives the impression the sound is more near the back. If there is more high end in your reverb it sounds like it is right up front. Also you can pan and reduce width as well to give it even more placement.
It's definitely IMO how you use it more so than what you use. Though each reverb has it's place, and some are better than others.

short predelay for far out sounds and longer predelay for closer in sounds.
you gotta use a good quality verb, not a cheap piece of rubbish. |

create two send channels, use one for reflections (predelays) and one for diffusion...
send noizy sounds (hats, claps) to reflection channel to get stereo effect and if too clear - send some tonal sounds to diffusion...
don't forget to setup panning |
