It's almost same as hardware , just more digital ,
use a seperate mixer channel for different sounds
like: bassdrum,bassline,snare,hats,pads...
eq and compress yo bd and bassline on 2 channels
to get the most punch out of it , don't pan them
because in most tracks those sounds should b solid
in front of da' mix .
For other sounds use subtractive eq'ing , when u
listen to it in yo monitors and don't forget
headphones too .
Anyway this is a lot of experience needed , but the
main difference between digital and analogue is
that u need to b more carefull with going to red leds
i mean clipping , because every analogue mixer has
some different but listenable and nice sound when
it clips to red , but if u work with digital mixer or a
computer , it's a different story , no clipping here ,
because digital clipping sounds like some huge
diesel engine or something .
ok , at this point i going to
se ya later . . .
EZ ,

Peace.

Frequency spectrum wise, make sure your kick it higher than the bass; Don't allow their frequncies to overlap too much, i.e cut the kick under 110 hz for example, and lower the higher frequencies of the bass, if they exist (depends on the sound of your bass).

That's a good one , the same about other sounds
who like to sit on same frequency ranges ,
in worst cases when u can't do much with the EQ
u can "pan" the problematic sounds to yo stereo
just a little.

start the sequence from drums then to bass and other shit...
when u done
check the master level and all the stereo stuff
effects are more effecient in the end.

no need to mess too much with compression/limiting.

it's "step by step" easy tutorial
understandble and easy
what i do ?
step1
i like to midicontrol my delay lay lay ay ay feedback
amount and pan stereoposition of the feedback with
midi sysex msgs all over the shit , so i just doin' it live , and record all controller data to cubase (here i
can edit the shit if someshit recorded wrong)
step 2
here i can record my part to hardisk digitallyI/O'ed,
but i decide not to do it.
i recordin' it to my old "200shekel Sony walkman":)
f%&k quality i got some faders here with "quality" ,
some addictive eq'ing and the shit sound FAT .
step 3
record the shitty output to sampler , assign to
midichannel, audio output, and now
it sits on the fader and i can arrange it in cubase ,
and if i put it trough sampler's resonant LPF , and record the midicontrol data of the filter frequency
movement to cubase again
ok , it's some kinda' loop
but those loops become usable
for other sounds in the track too .
a lot of

EZ ,

Peace.

or vise-versa.

if you listen to tracks, you'll notice that EITHER the Bass or the Kick dominates the low end. sometimes the kick will fill out the sub spectrum, with the bass taking care of the low-mid range,..
or a snappy kick on top of a phat, rumbly, sub-y bass-line.

a word on eq-ing, its best to use Subtractive EQ-ing, that is: cutting out the frequencies around the ones you want to enhance, instead of just boosting the frequencies you want to hear.
this way, you give more room for the rest of the mix to breathe, and different elements aren't competing for space and attention.

and david is right too: use monitors!

BASS AND KICK....

a lot of people try to give them power effects
and eq, but take care about such deep frequences,
when its too much your track is plum.. and
sometimes it makes sense to sit there and find out the right baseline for a few days..

the kick and bass are nearly the most important
elements in a track.. spend much time with it

another simple one:
set master volume less than 0 dB,
when u level the channels - don't increase the channel volume, but decrease it (to avoid clipping/distortions)
in the final mix set master volume to what u need.

and of course - compress

refferances .
no need to explane...

check the final wav in some places .

& the most important thing i think it's the atitude to sound work !
open the track again & again to correct even if it's somthing that u think that only u hear...

no magic here...
just hard work , attention for every small detail & good ears ...

dont be lazy! now go to work
