Second hand prices are very low at the moment (350€ in France) so I was wondering if it's still an interesting synth nowadays considering a - the fact that I own a Powercore virus b - the sound quality of vstis nowadays. I've heard that the FM on the nord is better than the virus. Well what do you think about it ? Do you know where i can listen to mp3 demos with psy music in mind (I have already heard the mp3 on clavia.se) ? Thanks !

I have a Nord Lead 1 Rack and a Virus B Rack. I use the Nord probably twice as much as the Virus. I find the Virus often has more "wow" factor, but the Nord usually is more usable and sits in the mix better. Like all things though it depends on how you use it and how well you know it.           New Album: Jikkenteki - Flights Of Infinity

Hi Jikkenteki. I have never used a nord 1 or any for that matter but i know the 1 has a very low voice count.. How many parts do you usually get to before the need to start bouncing to audio?

Mine has the expansion card in it so I'm not sure, but in all honesty once I make a part, I record directly to audio right away (hell I usually do that even with VST's). Probably due to having a background in live band studio work with tape machines and such. In my case I probably never even come close to pushing the hardware to its full potential regarding voices and such so I've never had a problem with it. Also since the Nord Lead doesn't have any built in effects anyways, unless you have outboard effects units, you'll probably have to record it into audio and then work on that part of the sound design anyways.           New Album: Jikkenteki - Flights Of Infinity

i had nord micromodular, then nord modular G2 and now i have nr2 .. i think NR2 is the BEST choice from clavia's portfolio because of really easy of use (you have for almost everything direct knob/button) - so you get extremely quick and easy way the classic nord-ish raw sounds, which are still actual an perfectly fit in the mix...

you will not blame your choice, nr2 is awesome synth born for psytrance.. i think psytrance will be not today there where it is if there will be not clavia (and access of course )           --

Am I the only one who thinks 350eur for this is a ripoff? I mean for 50eur more you can get a blofeld or a DSI Evolver... Aren't synth1 and discovery good enough emulations?           I don't use ideas. Every time I have an idea it's too limiting, and usually turns out to be a disappointment. But I haven't run out of curiosity. -RR

Well i bought a nordrack 2 for 300 €. Neuromantik, you might be right about the emulations, but this one has k.n.o.b.s and I guess the sound must be a bit better. I'll tell you tomorrow, the nordrack is waiting for daddy at the post office
Check this video :

One reason I'm looking for the Nord is for FM FXs and I'm pretty sure that the hardware counterpart is far better on this point.

synth1 and discovery are far far away from the sound of NordRack2, mainly in then mix! it cannot be compared, try use 4-5 sounds from dicovery in mix with other insturments, try take bassline from discovery and then try same with nord - there is BIG difference... i never used discovery in my tracks for more important sounds, only for few background noises, becasue the spunds from discovery maybe sounds relatively OK standalone, but they are absolutely LOST in mixt.. but with nord rack it's completly different situation, no matter how full is mix, the sound from NR2 always fit there, it's concrete, it's hearable, it sit in the mix ...

dsi evolver is great synth too.. i have both - nr2 and evolver and each has it's own individuality, character and own spectrum of useable sounds ...

btw. together with TI they are DREAMTEAM

i think, for psytrance producer, NordRack2 is definitive MUST-HAVE before NR2 i had micromodular, then modular G2, but only NR2 makes me tottaly satisfied with sound/easy of use ratio ...          --
