I am planning to buy a secondhand Clavia synth, but haven't got much knowledge of the different types. Could somebody explain me what is the difference between Nord Lead 2.x, Nord Rack, Nord G2 Engine, Nord Electro etc.? Of course beyond the obvious differences that NL2.x has keys and G2 has not, etc.
I checked the Clavia site before.

Are you serious?
Nord Lead 2X is like the old Nord Lead 2, a regualr VA Synth with no other special functions etc.
The Nord Rack, assuming you're talking about the Nord Rack 2, is like the Nord Lead 2X, but with less polyphony and no keys.
Nord G2 Engine is a modular synth, but "Engine" because it has no edit buttons or whatsoever.
So you would have to edit and control it from your pc.
Nord Electro is totally different story.
It's not a VA or modular synth, but a sample based synth just with Organ sounds and such. |

nordlead 1/2/3, modular and G2 are Virtual analog synths and not the others if i m right. |

  When rain dries, clouds form.
When clouds moisten, rain forms. |

OK. Seems to be a lot of things I don't know about Nords. Thanks.
Then NL2x is an upgraded version of NL2. The G2 is a 'box' connected to the PC and can be used with a 'reaktor'-like software. Rack is something like a limited NL2 with no keys. Am I right?
What about the sounds? All is the same? Or NL2 is for leads mainly and Rack or G2 is for other sounds like bass etc.?

Basically clavia changed their base algorithms/sound for the nord lead 3 and g2.
The modular and g2 are modular synths, the leads are subtractive/basic FM synths.
you can do pretty much everything with either, leads, basses, weird sounds. you would probly be best to start with the nord lead 2, the modular/g2 is not easy to program if your new to synths. Check out early GMS tracks, its pretty much all nord lead 2. |
