Hello all!
I am searching for classical Indian tunes based ONLY by the instrument, sitar . I'm not looking for any vocals involved. Something such as the album Ravi Shankar - Homage To Mahatma Gandhi.
Please advise me to anything similar.
Thanks in advance.

Try Anoushka Shankar - Anourag. Excellent sitar performances on all tracks. And she is Pt Ravi Shankar's daughter, so playing the sitar is in her genes

I'm sure you wont find a better album, Chebi Sabbah to me is more electronica than Indian classical but thats just my opininon. If pure sitar is what you want, Anoushka is your best bet!           Don't Worry, Stay Trippy!

Thank you all for the suggestions.
I checked out Cheb I Sabbah. Although this wasn't exactly what I was looking for, I did manage to find some interest in this artist.
I will check out Anoushka Shankar as soon as I get the chance too.
Any other suggestions?

... There's one track by Adham Shaikh on his genius album "Fusion" that has a wicked Sitar track. Beautiful and hyphnotizing. .. Now, what was the name of the track again..?

Hi Psygirl

As luck would have it, for Christmas I've compiled and just linked tracks with some sitar for a close friend who is intending to practise the instrument while her next stay in India (in about a few weeks)..

I named it "Life sounds better with Sitar"

Well.. hmm as it was supposed to be a personal present I dunno.. I can name you the tracks I've put into this selection here ? Some contains lyrics, btw, including mantras.. And not all are "classical indian tunes" as you wished it, there are several artists that have been named in this thread already..
