hey guys,
i was wondering how people go about processing snares and/or claps
my claps are sooo weak compared to my kick...what do you guys do to fatten them up a bit?
cheers!

I layer clap n snare. Use little eq, cut the lows, boost a little around 500-700 and try to get the highs to match my open hat.
Add a reverb with a very open but fast setting + gate, then you can compress a little.
I like it to sound like a whip or a tight smacking sound.
Also do try to offset some milliseconds before your kick, some times it really helps.
cheers. |

No problem mate... take into account when i said boost a little around 500 i dont really know where but the point is to bring up the low end of snare sound a little, but be really careful since you can mess the sound if boost too much. |

i defintely have to try that, a lot of people are suggesting me to pay attention to the offset and i never really care about it, shame on me

I think in first place its about the sound of the sample, if it fits the rest, second its the lenght.. third is pattern and 4th is the FX...
Also its all about context...

Damn right. Spend less time EQing and more time looking for good snares.
I think that rule applies to everything really.
I think if I was using a snare for a breakbeat tune, I may layer some up there, but more often than not I leave it as dry as possible.
If I have a really rich sounding kick though, I'll just use a noise waveform + lots of EQ but that's an obvious exception. |
