With previous releases on Origo Sound and Beatservice Records, Norwegian duo Circular signs here a strong and highly anticipated fourth album.
[ Substans ] unfolds as a collection of micro ambient tales, journeys into intricate and multi-layered soundscapes.
The band thought this album as a sonic line tangent to realms as opposite as floating atmospherica and industrial clunks; a deep kaleidoscopic glide through reverberated guitar riffs, uplifting grooves and environmental ambient.
Ardent ISDN enthusiasts will notice the impression Future Sound Of London's avant-garde electronica left on Bjarte Andreassen and Jostein Dahl Gjelsvik.
Indeed the band claims influences as diverse as Biosphere, Boards of Canada, Sun Electric and saw this album as one opportunity to acknowledge landmarks in their history of music encyclopaedia.
Moreover, [ Substans ] reveals the work of a collective of photographers and designers. The artists joined by Christin Vaag, Torje Bjellås, Øyvind Veberg and Christoffer Furnes reflected on the album echoes in the vast Scandinavian territories.
Mixed by Peter Andreas Nordenstam and mastered at Ginger Hill Studio by Huby Sea.

I'm listening to the 1:30 samples on the site and forgetting (while working) to click the next song. So each sample is looping for about 10-15 minutes before I remember to move on to the next. So for about 10-15 minutes I'm listening to it over and over thinking, "Man, this is a good song.". Yep. gonna have to get this pre-ordered. |

Hey...If it's good enough for Ultimae..... it's good enough for me!!!!
I have every Ultimae release issued so far.
I think after hearing the samples that this could well be the most "Ambient" of all their releases.
It seems that Circular are infuenced by such artists as Biosphere!!!
As usual, i will preorder!!!

from the samples and from the promo pack track it sounds wonderful.
also really looking forward to see the artwork of all the photographers and designers !
Scandinavian vibes...that's nice !
you can feel it in the music, and from the small photos on the Ultimae email the artwork looks mesmerizing ! |

Pre-ordered! Though the USD to Euro conversion and shipping fee that is about 50% the cost of the album really made it something I had to agonize about for a while. |
