What do you think about all the south american christian ayahuasca churches like Santo Daime, which use ayahuasca as a sacrament?
I went to such a gathering. Kind of weird. Consuming DMT as a sacrament, white dressed people singing songs about truth, beauty and so on ... I would say, it`s on some kind of boarder to the not so good ... |

As Latin American Native the perspective is quite different.
Since the conquest christianity and local religions were mixed a lot, the Guadalupe Virgin is one of the best example of syncretism between christian and natie american simbols.
So indigenous people mix the traditions still to this day, there are places in Oaxaca Mexico where they also use mushroms as sacrament. Or as a way to go in to trance and speak with the Virgin.

It`s good to read your perspective, even so I did not see any opinion of yours. I know about the history of those specific churches and how they mixed neo-christian, shamanic and north-african elements, but I am interested to read what people think about those rituals or if anybody participated in such a ritual? I understand that it is normal in specific regions, but I am interested to see what people think about it.

I don't have an opinion really, yes it seems weird coming form another culture as I suppose is very weird for shamans and clerics on those traditions the way foreigners use them.
My experience with indigenous people using mushrooms is that they treat them as a very sacred and precious thing. Some fo them have negative strong opinions about the recreational use of their sacred plants.
I respect both uses, while I prefer the recreational,.
