Or... you can use your ears and experiment your way to a chord
there are alot of different C chords,
do you want a:
jazzy 7th
minor triad
major triad
augmented
Diminished
half diminished
half 7th
suspended
etc.....
Mate, instead of getting a program to do it, get a music theory book! it's worth it

Yeah man, I understand you. But seriously, go for a music theory book and just experiment with chords on a keyboard.
Studying and learning may seem like a chore, but it is the best way to progress.

Better still learn the major scale and then write down somewhere which notes you need to construct certain chords. ie:
Major triad - R,3rd,5th
Minor Triad - R, flat 3rd, 5th
Dominant 7th - R,3rd,5th, flat 7th.
Also learn to harmonise major scales to build chords.
ie. Cmajor harmonised in 3rds:
C - D - E - F - G - A - B
E - F - G - A - B - C - D
G - A - B - C - D - E - F
C Dm Em F G Am Bdim
All I've done here is wrote down the C major scale and built the chords by Choosing a note, missing out the next one and adding the one after that to the chord and repeating that process to get 3 notes. A triad, nice and simple.
And remember when harmonising a major scale starting from your root chord reading the chord names up to the seventh the types of chord are always going to be:
Maj,Min,Min,Maj,Maj,Min,Diminished.
I hope that helps. |
