I side with mike, but to achive perfect chopping...do like mike says and proccess your sound with the correct compressor and thats it ! , maybe an ADSR proccessor will help !
the chopps are no problem at all, the point in chopping is the final shape of your chopps man ! , think about it !

I just use noise gate with sidechannel for these stuff... much more control over each 'chop'.
  Crackling universes dive into their own neverending crackle...

There is a way to do it quite easily with Reason. I written once a tutorial on how to do it but it's on my new, broken, PC. As soon as it will be fixed i'll send it to this thread
