Different dj:s play different styles...

How do YOU think the choice of music should be? from the beginning, to the end of a party.

Well, it depends on a lot of things like the venue (indoors or outdoors) and of course the listener.

For me a well built set in the beginning of a party can be many things. It can start with full-on, progressive, minimal, even ambient - built wisely everything can work wonders

During night the style should mainly be dark and pumping. For me it doesn't really matter if it's progressive/minimal/full-on, as long as the DJ's build their sets well. I personally prefer a few uplifting tracks during the night to lift my mood. I remember a CreamCrop party last year where the style was really dark minimal stomping music and one of the DJ's played an old Chi-A.D. track (Waverider) in the middle of his set. The crowd went totally crazy, and after the track ended everybody had even more energy to dance the rest of the night

Morning: The best part of the party for me as I've always been a fan of the uplifting side of psytrance
There should be lots of dreamy tracks around sunrise to get a big smile on peoples faces

Yes, I think I follow your point
Personally i think minimal and progressive is for the first 2-3 hours. After that I want a little more uptempo, melodic psy... then ofcourse hard, pumping psy with alot of twisted leads, Shift, Rinkadink and everything from Alchemy records
Mornings should in my opinion NOT be minimal like most parties end, people get sleepy that way... A good morning with perhaps - as you said profane - melodic, dreamy...
Perfect night, perfect morning

Id like to hear as much psychadelic as possible... But some oldies in the end, if its a open air party!

For me, it depends on the setting, the people, the timing and also the size of the event. Its really up to the organizers to make all fit.

I like music to change over night, but not too much though, I prefer it to stay within the genres which are psychedelic, no music with too many vocals for me please. Timetech, Buzzmonx etc thats as housy as I want it to get.

In my experiences, many combinations work, the worst an organizer can do to spoil my partying experience, is book 4 very similar acts... I prefer changes in style, full on, progressive, ambient, break beat and so forth... But Id definately NOT enjoy listening to full on for 3 hours and then have things slow down to break beat.. So maybe

Ambient/Chill/Breaks 1½ hour
Slow progressive 1½ hour
Darker progressive Trance 3 hours
Full on 2 Hours
Lighter uplifting progressive 3 hours.

That would be good for me, right now

However, theres no standard recipe, organizers should experiment with these things, putting less emphasis on "by the book" parties...
Sadly, its hard, since people are often narrowminded and just want progressive, full on or minimal...

Last, its important with really skilled and passionate DJs, who know their music... Full on in particular can be a horrible style when a set is compiled out of stressy tracks.

I agree with rosengren, though only everything in psytrance

start with chill (yeah), coming up with minimal, then tech / prog, then full on, and some oldschool goa in the klimax . then coming down with some morning stuff. And of course the end with 100% chilled stuff           Ut ameris, amabilis esto.
