The third in the excellent series from Digital Structures offers more places to sit, and is indeed in a more homely atmosphere. The third Chillosophy is more loungey, more mellow, less brain manipulating and very relaxing. The mellowness is felt almost all through the journey, I can just guess that winter in Scandinavia must have its effect- so this feels very much to me like sitting by the fireplace with snow dancing outside holding a cup of alcohol boosted hot beverage, and relaxing, thinking about different realms.
The journey starts ethnic flavored and mellow, gets more complex with amazing singing in the Ooze track, then takes a more loungey atmosphere with Jens and Ticon, topping in the best tune here by Legion of Green Man- totally Jazzy, great track- but why so short? Long developing version please! Things slow down and get more hypnotic with the mysterious Stressassassin track and the monotone and more Psychedelic Nano-X. Then comes the amazing Manzanilla by Vibrasphere from their latest album, relaxed and floating with lots of feel. Mr. Seb "Shakta" Taylor, shows where his heart really lies and where his talent is spent as well probably with the dreamy Part of You. More singing but in hypnotic lo-tech moody feel from Son Kite and continuing in the same surroundings but in more experimental soundscapes comes Aztech. On the way out we get the more optimistic Aloft with beautiful Bjorkish singing and the finishing track is one of my favorites here, with that melody sending chills down my spine and giving me goose bumps!
Bottom Line: Just beautiful- a bit moody, but still beautiful and with an optimistic streak going through it. It all flows totally clean and grew on me with every listen, each time finding new favorites, till I can say I like all tracks. Favorites: 1, 5, 6, 8, 9, 10, 13.

Absolutely wonderful music here... everybody loves it. I play it anywhere and people come to ask what is this excellent piece of music Even one older man was interested when I played the Ooze track in a tram on a sunny day in Helsinki
I wish there would be more compilations this great!

better? dunno. But for sure more whole, more mature, more one piece. I love the first one, the second is also good.
Let's say it's a deserving sequel.

Like in every compliation there are excellent tracks (e.g Son Kite's Million wishes and Aztech's Manifesto), and also less good ones (such as Vibrasphere's track that isnt exactly my cup of tea or Mere Mortals's Aloft).
Obviously it is a matter of taste, and imho this is a good compliation with beautiful sounds by good artists.
Even the 'less good' tracks add much flavour to this compliaction.
Way the go, Seb.

The Chillosophy Compilations are the Concept that attract me the most on DS Work.
Imho, this one is by far the best of the 3 and already one of my (several;) favorites Compilations, concerning Ambient.
Excellent
Also pretty cool Covers, indeed !!!

Sorry, just one more thing to add:
In Chillosophy 3, all tracks and the sequence are great but, again, my favorite track is from Ooze as it happens on Chillosophy 2 (a collaboration) & Chillosophy 1, with the famous "Quintessence".
To bad track 2 is a very short track, with only 6 m but really really beautiful as all Ooze's tracks.
I got the album just for about 4/5 months, and, since the very first listen, is in the Top of my huge masterpieces, without a shadow of doubt.
Just 8 tracks in almost 80m (as it happens also in the Chillosophy compils) which means long tracks with 9/10/11/12/13m, all incredible, with a really wonderful music/story !!!
If Seb continue at his level, next Ooze's album will be another "Piece of Art", that's guaranteed.
PS - Not only, but especially for the ones who knows this magistral Work, Shahar's description from this album is amazing, in my opinion !!!
Superb Review !!! - BEing mySELF |
