actually in:vision was not exclusively downbeat
there was also a trance stage feat. antix eg.

i am having some thoughts of possibly hosting a nice downbeat/ethno festival in southeast canada this coming summer. should make up my mind within a month or so. If not, then definitely some other year.           Load Universe into Cannon. Aim at Brain. Fire.

In the UK there's the Big Chill which is quite an upmarket festival - full of London media types - but still reputedly very good (i've never got around to going..). In 2004 there was also a festival called the Turaya Gathering which was mainly chill/downsbeat/world stuff & was meant to be excellent - but didnt do the numbers...

Not sure about the Canadian Shambala, but the Uk Shambala (on the same w/e spookily enough) is a very chilled festivals - but not really a chillout festival - mainly world/festival type bands - and the whole festival gets in fancy dress on the sat night - which is a great laugh

In Australia there's Submerge. www.resonant-temple.com

This year was the inaugral one and I believe it was a very fine experience! (did anyone in this forum go there?)

It's on again in Feb 11/12 2006 at the same place - Opoeia Eco-arts retreat in the lush Ottways, Victoria.

I'll post details about this years when I have them.

peace, delay.

i went to an all chill festival this summer and one last summer, both in Canada. Its something that I'd always wanted to see and experience, but I gotta say....it doesn't really work

I hate to admit it, but the party almost completely dies at night as people get too cold to sit around or dance slowly. i think we really need our doofy trance brothers and sisters to keep things going through the night.

If I were organizing a festival, I would spend all the headliner money on chill acts/bands that would play during the day; in the style of concerts or jam band fests. then let the trance dj's take over the main stage from 10pm to 8am. no need to book trance headliners, they're never as good as trance djs anyway. real music all day; trance all night. IMO, this is a much better formula than 24 hrs of trance with some random chill djs stashed in a corner somewhere; and also a better formula than a "no trance allowed" chill fest.           http://soundcloud.com/rob-vector

We got this amazing Festival in the 3 largest cities in Denmark incl. Copenhagen. It is very variated. Not like a 24/7 non-variated psy-chill tent.

It work amazing in Copenhagen. Why? Because it's only during morning/afternoon/and Evening and close at Midnight. Who ever said it has to happen in the night?           www.beatagency.dk

festival in a big city like copenhagen? meh...
i think i'd still prefer somewhere way out in the woods.

is this "festival" only a one day affair? or is it the kind of thing where you rent out spaces in the city and people come and go throughout the weekend? to me, this sounds like a completely different event. i'm sure its cool and all, but not really what i'm talking about.

i'm talking about getting the whole family together for a weekend in the woods, secluded from mainstream society, where people don't have to think about driving or taking trains or whatever.           http://soundcloud.com/rob-vector

Why would you say "meh" to something you've never experienced? Just to be square? This is by far the best event I've been to regarding chill-out.           www.beatagency.dk

damn, man, are you working for the organizers of stella polaris or something??
no, i've never experienced this festival; actually i've never even been to denmark. so maybe some day i'll check it out. k?

i have been to big outdoor gatherings in boston, new york, and quebec city, and its really not the same thing as a psychedelic festival in the woods.           http://soundcloud.com/rob-vector
