Would anyone know if there are any midi controllers out there with the same functions as the Novation SL's, but cheaper?

Yup i also definitely recommend the Nocturn if you don't need anything with keys.           http://www.soundcloud.com/getafixmusic

I just ordered mine, waiting for it to ship. I used to have the novation remote sl zero, which is nice but I don't think it's really necessary for my style of working.

Really I just need control that is easy to setup and change. This is where the nocturn steps in, for the price I don't think it can be beat.
