I have the Samson R6a monitors which are amazing for the price but lack a little in the low end. Im looking for a subwoofer monitor to buy, but dont have a lot of money. Any suggestions for the price range of £100 or is there no point? |

No point imo..put it toward better monitors in the long run.

really? I think subwoofer for now because the mid and high enf of my monitors are just as good as really expensive monitors ive tested, so seems pointless to buy whole new expensive monitors just for better bass. Anyone out there know any cheap places to get Sub monitor?? |

That hasn't been by experience at all, but I guess it's largely a subjective thing. Either way, I really doubt that you'll be able to find one for anywhere around £100, even used.

Damn, why are Subs so much? Really need the bass but just dont have the money at the moment. Would it be ok to buy a cheap sub that isnt a monitor one, and is just a hifi or car sub. just to use until i get more money?
Thanks for the advice though kane |

Potentially. Though it won't match your system.
The reason monitor subs are expensive is quite often they have crossovers built in.
Car subs are designed to work well in small enclosed places and may accentuate certain frequencies.
You might hear bass from a cheaper speaker, but it won't be monitor worthy - the point of monitors is to get an accurate picture of the sound, if you don't have that - whats the point? |

Rather than start a new thread, can I get a show of hands of who actually uses a sub in their setup and whether it helped their mixes?
I'm thinking about buying the K&H 0800

I bought a samson resolv sub for 100 bux to go with my 200 dollar Samson Rubicon r5as, totally necessary in my opinion and really changed my entire production... but that's because the r5as have no low end at all. |

I absolutely agree with Zoopy. It's bullshit to talk about expensive monitors in bedroom studios - rather to buy a subwoover to boost low end until you can feel subs in your body as you like it to feel when you are listening commercial tracks. change positions/DIY traps/add sub until you hear your reference track in it's way.
You do a shit with expensive monitors in room with bad acoustic. Sub definition is a different thing, you need acoustic threatened room. There is no sense to buy 1000-2000e monitors to home until you've gain the best knowledge about acoustics and monitors itself - waste of money. I think people should spend atleast three times more money to acoustics than monitors
-But Whatever Sounds Good!
I've bedroom studio, my commercial reference tracks sounds good in the sweetspot even bass resonates in other spots. I've some DIY
absorders
here is my sub 170e from secondhand

I use the sub from my logitech 5.1 system. Pretty sure the crossover is way too high (60hz or so) but even with such a cheap piece of crap it lets me quickly know if I have too much subbass going on. I think even a cheap sub could help with this. |

Yeah. Acoustic threatened room.
It's a quite interesting part of Shaman religion. There is just you and empty room - you're alone but the whole room is against you! The lower voice you use - more reflections there will be and you'll be fucked up. It's bloody always.
Early reflections kill you instantly and flutter echo makes you suffer big time pain.
