CHEAP soundproofing

Hey, got a soundproofing question. I am moving into a new house and don't want to annoy my new housemate, his bedroom is right next to mine and the wall isnt massively thick, I was thinking of buying/hanging up some duvets on the wall we share, my friend suggested thick blankets (more than one) and hanging them together instead. I am not looking to block out rave noise, levels just enough so I can produce quietly at night, and by quietly I hope/think you know what I mean, genuinely quiet but still producing levels + for watching funny shiz/docs etc.

Any recommendations? Would you say duvets or a few blankets would be better or any other material? I have looked at so called cheap soundproofing solutions but these still run in at £1000s, when I finish my degree maybe get them then but for now looking for CHEAP / but not massively sound reducing. Any tips would be appreciated.

hmm, that's difficult...got a similiar situation here, but with a door on the wall next to my roommate...so it's much worse ^^

sorry to say, but if you have a solid wall, it's really difficult to get more isolation...you would have to do a room-in-room solution in order to archieve a good result...and that is expensive.

just hanging a few blankets would give you nearly no improvement, because the wavelength for low freqs is too long to be absorbed, and i assume you're talking 'bout bass problems mainly.

maybe you could do some kind of second wall in front of the original one with rockwool, but i don't think it would help that much.

especially bass freqs go through walls (and through the wall and ceiling too), so it is nearly impossible to damp that freqs in a cheap way...
