I have th emu 1820.
if you want an unreliable card, with a proven record of spontaneus malfunctioning, a multidude of dsp effects that suck (but that doesnt matter because they are rendered almost useless by the poor user interface and the unusable vst connection), a terrible user interface and a large population of frustrated users i highly recomend emu.
Imagine being in the middle of a fantastic peace of work when suddenly your audiodock has all its lights on, your computer lags, no sound comes out and all your programs lag. imagine waiting thru thrree weeks of technical corespondence before the company agrees to replace the shit you bought, waiting two weeks to be notified your unit arived at creative (in ireland, dont forget the shipping charges) two weeks for it to return. thats seven weeks of staring at your disabled system cursing the day you bought emu.
then imagine repeating the cycle a few weeks after your replacment arives.

stay away from emu
stay away from creative.
you do not know bitterness until you know a creative product.           Work like you don't need the money.

If your looking for a great quality sound card thats really cheap then I would recomend you find an old Gina 20 soundcard. It deals only with the audio not midi but sounds secound to non and I saw one go for £15.00 in ebay last week. Thats about the same at a CD album costs. 2 analouge ins 8 analouge outs 1 digital in and 1 digital out. Its a 95 or 97 card but event electronics keep updateing the drivers regularly so no probs there.           www.audio-presto.co.uk post production audio and synth modifications / repairs.
