I just went on to their website.
They are ceasing trading on 31 August.
What's the story? Can I order CDs until then?

Theres alot of discusion about it on psy-forum. Basically CD sales have plumetted and Mick Chaos cannot afford to keep it going any more - sad news as I, like many others, have bought loads of CDs off them in the last 7 years & always had great friendly service.

Another big loss to the increasingly smitten psy trance industry..Mick was one of the last UK bastions of the psy trance retailers.
Meanwhile the community grows bigger but less willing to support itself.....to blame are several factors including the ruthless price wars, unscrupulous dodgy downloads, copying and the pride with which so many want the word "FREE" to be included in their prescription for entertainment.
Sorry to hear it Mick, you worked your ass off to offer a great service to us all. |

Im definately going to miss Chaos Unlimited! I did my last order tonight - I love the fact that they have loads of psy on vinyl amongst their other endearing factors...this clearly illustrates how the counterculture community will if its not careful collapse in on itself in terms of there being an industry to go with it to spread the word. We all know how cool it is to go to a psytrance party and find people from across the globe who have parties that are just as cool with equally nice people back home - to me the psytrance movement is a real peace spreader across the globe and its why you see pictures of riot police attending raves to shut them down..it terrifies the establishment who want to be able to control people and keep them in line.. that people can get together and organise festivals or parties that create a strong community of people who to governemnts - are able to shun state interference. The psy industry has to be able to suck some of the money from organisations that work against the good of humanity such as companies that sell wares and then go fund campaigns of for example the republicans or Tony Blair or other right wing conservatives. The hippy ideal of 'we dont need money to have a bueatiful life' in the long run makes things like this happen... I say start being prepared to help this community grow in strength by funding the industry that goes with it, chaos unlimited closing down is a real blow for the peace movement when you look at the bigger picture, whos up for getting something just as good together..we should work together and sort this out (or something like that)?? |

Well that's it, it's August 31st and the end of chaosunlimited.co.uk they did provide an excellent service but nothing lasts forever I suppose, I've read on other forums that Mick Chaos is going to go into the business of running a site with downloads you pay for, which could be good the chaos unlimited people are the folks I'd trust most to put together a site that would lead people into this new era of buying music.
Thanks for the cd's over the years Chaos - it is a shame you didn't end with a humongus sale though. |

The new mp3 site is effectively a portal through to audiojelly: www.psymp3.com
The Chaos site does mention the possibility of a 'rescue', which I guess means they're thinking of selling the business. That might explain why they're hanging on to the stock.

Hi Chris & Psy forum
To try and answer all the points.
We nearly had a Chaos Unlimited Recscue package but it fell through - sorry we did try.
http://www.psymp3.com is not a knee jerk re-action to closure of Chaos Unlimited, its been in building since Jan 2006. It just so happens its gaining a whole load of new labels just as Chaos sadly sinks into the history of Psy Trance. Regards pricing look carefully and you will see that single tracks are £1.25, complete albums are £5.99. We are testing the .wav delivery format and hope to come in much cheaper than beatport and below TID. However everyone must appreciate that delivering .wavs does involve extra costs to deliver over mp3s. Hope ive cleared most things up.
Thanks to all for the good wishes and support, if we could have survived on just that we would have gone on forever!!!! Mick |
