Just get a pair of headphones. I don't think you need a preamp. Check the outs of your duet.
Get the best headphones you can afford.           soundcloud.com/supergroover

I have a pair of sony crappy 40 USD earbuds, and theyre pLENTY.

If you need more volume from audio, maybe you ought to try listening to lower volumes more often than high.

Its only your hearing, i mean, its replacable by machines nowadays. If you can afford that.

Personally I try to keep the levels of audio I listen to in quiet noisefree environments at -9db. Unless Im rocking out, then its RED LINE not really.

I live n fear of losing my hearing; music is my life and livelihood and helps me stay off drugs, so if that wasn't a part of my life... Well Id do what the dj in Its All Gone Pete Tong did and fucking DO IT DEAF AS A POST. Beethoven was so in tune with music by the time he went deaf he didn't need to hear. I can still miraculously read music after 15 yrs without a glance at a musical staff, so maybe it wouldnt be that bad...

It would suck balls regardless.

Listening to audio at moderate levels can improve your tone-recognition and sound differentiation, meaning you can hear different elements, clearer, than otherwise. At least, that's been my experience. I used to crank the audio, and still do when the time is right. But now i know a C# from a Bb so i won't get run over crossing the street. Old bad band joke from my middle school band teacher, teh thrower-of-batons; C# or you will Bb! hed say after throwing the baton at some offkey second-sectioner. If it wasnt for him, idk if id be who i am now, and its taken me 15 yrs to realize how important and special ppl like Mr Gillen are, to help those of us willing to spend the time learning the things taht make teachers like that wake up in the morning and deal with 11-13yo kids [still the band leader of teh WJHS last i heard, rock on mr g!] with bad smelling clarinets and cracked reeds that somehow wound up playing 2nd clarinet in the advanced band by the time he was 12, if it wasnt for dedicated individuals sharing their love of whatever, where would we be?

Love your art and love the tools, they are the fibers that weave into tapestries and rugs of persian quality, almost on their own. Your ears are tools too, and should be cared for as all tools must. They wear out eventually, so far we don't have reverse aging. Why hasten their uselessness through carelessness? Save the >0db for the party, or when teh kid is loud (they will be omg they WILL BE, and deafness will seem like a viable alternative, but trust me its worth it when they become people, after a year or so, and really start to learn and grow, and know you and love. Its the love that makes it worth the screaming and angry mom and lack of sexual intermingling with her and all the rest of the difficult parts. Youll see. And dont worry if youre 'doing it right', just, try to steer your child in the direction of a non-asshole personality, and that is mainly a matter of just not being an asshole, they learn more from your example than anything. Love them, show them that love is the way to be happy, adn the rest falls into place. There isnt any deep secret to being a good dad than that. They will learn all the rest from living their life. Just its important to show them love, whcih if my experience is any gauge, its hard not to show them love. Just be aware that once they start to verbalize theyll verbalize whatever they hear including foul language, so if you dont want their classmates and teachers to know all about what you personally say at home, try to limit AND LOVE THEM.           .
