Is it possible to chain multiple VTSi's together? and if so how do i go about doing it? Been something ive been wondering about for quite some time now.

Ok, i just read somewhere that in January of 2008, Steinberg will release "VST3" free to download off their site. VST3 is supposed to be able to chain together with each other. Anyone know if Cubase SX3 will be able to use VST3? or do you think it will be just a Cubase 4 thing.

The ability to make midi sound travel through 2 or more VSTi's, instead of just 1.

why not just copy the midi to the channel of the other vstis? Unless you're playing a synth live, I don't quite understand the usefulness of it.
An Eagle may soar, but Weasels don't get sucked into jet engines. |

as far as i know, cubaseSX3 can only use one VSTi per channel at any given time. What I want to do, is have 2+ VSTi's affecting the same midi at the same exact time.
For Example a midi that is using z3ta+ AND Vanguard at the same time

Not exactly, that would just overlap the sounds. By placing both VSTi's in sequence with each other, you would get a different effect.

Ok think of it like this:
You have sound. Passing it through a synthesizer bends and distorts it into something cool, then this mangled sound exits the synthesizer and you have something new. Now if you take that mangled sound and pass it through a second synthesizer, you can bend/mutilate/distort it even more. Now think of passing it through 5 synthesizers.
It is just something I have been interested in experimenting with.

like you can do with any hardware (or soft-) synth with audio input?
seems a bit strange honestly cause this would need the support of the desired vst (wave input as osc)
but I think with some synths its already possible, tough I'm not sure if it works in cubase...generally speaking, its the same as the 2nd synth works just as fx unit, no?

Yea it would be like routing the output of a hardware synth into a softsynth. And yea youre right about the 2nd synth working as an FX unit.
Anyone know how to do this in Cubase SX3?

dont know about cubase since I dont use it, but I think it should be possible with some synths in logic...you can also do this with a virus since years, i.e. routing a sound from a soft- or other hardware synth to the ins of the virus and then messing around with it...
still I dont think that it will be possible with all softsynths, even with this vst3

If you want to get 1 midi track to run through 2 VST's use the midi insert "Note 2 CC" |
