been meaning to ask this but couldn't find the appropriate section. (either DJ or equipment section maybe ?)

some replication machines work better than others. have a feeling it's about where you get your CDs made and what material they're using.

it's usually not every CD player that does this. it happens more in car players, especially ones where the laser head is dirty. CDRs are the first to stop working, and then there are some CDs, no matter how scratched they are, will read on anything!

Would be nice to have a technical resource on the subject, CD prints are going down in quantity and up in quality so this is a very significant topic especially in the low run psytrance industry.

Hello Yidam
This is happening to me on my macbook pro and in the car. The Cd just won't read.
I don't feel too bad because I have spare copies most of the time. But I can imagine this to be heart breaking to someone who paid for a internet order or something like that.

I feel that it needs to be addressed as well.

Its normal and not the labels fault!

Its the CD production Plants fault as they very natural have a few CD's on each shipment that have errors.

Why not just get it replaced?

When I buy a Shirt and it has a fault in the stitches I go and replace it with a new one           www.beatagency.dk

its somewhat the label fault too
not every time
but when trying to save money (as often happens) its very possible that its not a great company who do it for you.. and those have more errors then the expensive ones.
i cant imagine print on glass master throu sony going bad , but its more expensive thats all.           www.sattelbattle.com

Well they are pressured into saving money on the CD quality because people steal music instead of buying it. It's quite logical.

Still it is not the labels fault if there is a error on a CD. And usually the labels never see the CD's before they are shipped out to the distributors. And seriously do you think that they have to go through each CD to discover errors?

By the way I have had plenty errors on CD's made by the best CD production plants using the best available technology and materials.

If people want good quality CD's (CD's are dying anyway) then blame the majority that steal the music making it almost impossible for the labels to release a CD.

And after that get a refund or a replacement. How hard can it be?          www.beatagency.dk

I bought a brand new cd still in the plastic from a well know label, and i bought it of a friend who was selling for a distributor, not sure which one, anyway the motherf does not read so i wrote to the label owner which i know and told him that. Through FB.

He said go to the people that sold it and sort it out your yourself, i had asked the wavs of just 2 tracks to download... Cause i only wanted those 2. I did ask in a really nice manner and explained the whole situation...

Now this is customer service from Hippies... LOL

Of course i did not and now i paid for a cd that i do not play, and the worst is that its widely available on the net to be downloaded...
Fucking cunt this owner is...

Would you also call Sony and ask them to replace one of their CD's or would you call the shop you bought it in and ask them to replace it?           www.beatagency.dk

whatever "dude" Its your problem if you think I am a major pain in the ass. All I do is debate and put some valid facts on the table. I got 19 years of experience in this scene and know some facts regarding CD production. What you do is far from debating. You are whining and seem to have a hard time when I give you another point of view than the one you got

I dont see why you buying a CD off one of your friends obligate any label to replace it. Go to the distributor (who is the one who is obligated to replace it) where your friend bought it and get it replaced. I am sure your friend know where to go to. Quite easy

Or even better.Tell your friend who sold it to you to replace it or give your money back to you.          www.beatagency.dk

Labels have to approve the master copy of the cd...if the cd is tracked out in the wrong order, or something is wrong..then you have to get it fixed before you approve...once you approve the release you are responsible for everything after that...

Dude u are so predictable.. LOL...
Anyway again I thank you for your 19 year experience, you have showed me the light... A MASSIVE THANK U from LONDON...

The main issue for me is really customer service... If a person complains abt something i served or sold i replace or offer a refund... Anyway thats my way of doing business... If I buy a ticket from a ticket retailer for a concert to start at 7pm and they start at 11pm i complain to the artist not the retailer...

U dont need to reply ok?

All good just showed my view and what i think should happen... OVER AND OUT...

Oh but I will reply.

Good luck with your damaged CD

If you ever experience a damaged CD from a major retailer (it does happen) then I suggest you also call the major label. Just in case

Yes to the first part NO to the last part.

The CD "not playing" or "skipping track(s)" errors are not because of the master but because of a manufacturing error after approval of the master. And the minute the CD's are being sold by a distributor the Distributor is the one that legally is bound to replace a faulty CD to a shop and the shop is the one that's responsible according to law to replace it to the customer or to refund the money. You see a distributor buy off the stock of the label and by that is the one who is responsible according to the law.

IF the label sell the CD's on it's website or does all the distribution by itself THEN the label is responsible according to law. Otherwise not.

Just as if you download a tune from an online shop and there is an error. Then you ask the online shop to replace it or give you back the money. You dont call the label complaining

Only the Distributor has a legal claim against a label if there are errors on the CD(s). And the label then have a legal claim against the Production plant where they got the CD's from.
