first of all the cdj-500II is a lot larger (unless u mean cdj-500s)and based on older technology (it isnt that shock resistant as the cdj100, this does not count for 500s , which is as shock resistant as the 100)but the cdj-500II and 500s starts faster if u press play, also it has a flip open slot where u put the cd in and the cdj100 has a slot-in system (which i hate ), also the 500 series has a loop function and the 100's not , but but but the 100 series has built in effects (zip,wah,jet) and the 500 series not.
most important, the 100 series cost almost half of the 500 series and if i was u and had the cash i would buy the cdj-800 wich is the newest and costs practically the same as the 500 series

so what does all this shit means ;
-dont buy the cdj500II
-buy in order of preferance:
1. cdj-800
2. cdj-500s
3. cdj-100
depending on what is on offer and how much cash u have

buy DENON.
much more powerful drives.
only less sexy, because they haven´t got the big jogwheel, but you can control the cds very precisely with the +/- pitchbend buttons. they are really sensitive and precise.
maybe the new cdj1000 is as good considering the precision, but sooo much more expensive...

4 what purpose?

if u wana play psy-trance the pioneer 100 will do just fine (beatmix technique).

sure the 800 and the 1000 have many more functions, but they r not needed. further more, the latest versions r less reliable than the 100.

good luck.
