Greetings fellow trancers,

I'm looking to get into cd mixing and wondered if anyone could give me any recommendations for equipment ? Some sort of entry level package that will do the trick.

I have speakers and amp, I also have a basic numark mixer (for my 1200's)

Many thanks in advance.

If you intend on taking your decks to gigs all the time, I feel it's worth the $$ to get a better model. I say this because cheaper brands definitely don't hold up to wear & tear as much, and with digital you don't know how that is going to turn out.

If your keeping them at home, you probably could get by with a cheaper model, like Stanton or Numark, etc I have not used their CD decks.

All pioneers have always felt like cheap plastic to me. Some people may like that, but I don't. I have not used the technics, but they are big $$. I have heard both positive & negative things about them, particularly when scratching. I have always recommended Denon.

Suggestions:
Basic= Denon 2500--
rack mount dual CD deck. Very sturdy (my brother is still using his after like 10 years, and only now does one of the lens need replacing). I've seen new ones still floating around on eBay for like $300 US dollars. You can also find the 2600F, which has some effects built in, but you'll get more & better effects sounds on a dedicated outboard unit, so don't spend $$ on extra effects if possible)

More Advanced= Denon DSN 1000--
tabletop models. I use them currently. Very small footprint, protable, sound & play great, with great features. Built in effects are much more useable than 2600F. Scratching is possible, but limited. Bought mine for $330 new Each on eBay.

Advanced= Denon DSN 3000 or 5000--
Tabletop models with a moving platter, just like a turntable. If you want to scratch, these are what you want.
Lots of features, but you probably won't need them all.

i will not list the models nor brands, for the simple reason that i don't wanna sound like am endorsing someone or something.
but here are few tips to look for.

if you are planning to get cd decks, forget the entry level, you'll eventually will want more and will be disapointed with what you got in no time.
go for the best ones you can afford, do your research, see what others have to say about this or that.

most of all remember this:
if you are serious aboud dj-ing, decks you get are gonna be your tools, your bread and butter, and you wouldn't want get cheap ones. cheap cd decks are cheap for reason. invest in yourself smart way, not the cheap way, you'll be glad you did in the future .
think of it this way: if you were a car mechanic, would you get cheap tools that easly wear off and break???

sorry if i sounded like am lecturing you.
