I've released some of these tracks before, but they've finally been finished into an album. Contributions by myself, Tokyo Cat, Cat-A-Tonic and various other pussy lovers.

Available streaming or as freely downloadable lossless FLAC files, a new album from Cataluma featuring four tracks of improvisational Drone/Ambient/Freakout music from Japan and Italy. Should appeal to fans of Coil, Nurse With Wound, Lustmord, Tangerine Dream etc.

All comments very gratefully appreciated!

hi mate, i am giving all your tracks a listen and writing as i listen so here goes:

1. the singing voices are a great touch and work well with the irregular percussion, prefect atmosphere i think tho, that by 8.30 the great sound imparted by the panning cymbal is a bit old, I know you are going for super ambient and super slow evolving, but i think what you have created in this track can evolve a little faster with respect to that sound. great track overall tho, a new take on ambient music in my experience.

2. i think the sample comes out of the blue a little bit, the overall tune is great, but i think you could have elements of the vocals before the sample to hint that its going to come in. cool perc

3. another nicely made atmosphere, but i think that the drum that keeps cropping up (the tom sounding thing in the middle of the stereo field) could have more reverb, or maybe a slight delay or something, just to add more interesting. right before 9.00 you have a great buildup tone, neato

4. good sounds again, you have a unique ambient style           --

Thanks for listening and the detailed comments. I really appreciate you taking the time and effort.

As most of your comments are regarding the arrangements, I'd first like to mention that it is all live recordings, then live overdubs, then mixed and mastered after the fact. So basically, all these recordings are how they went down in the room at the time, which kind of dictated the arrangements. I didn't move too much stuff around in the time domain at the mixing stage, as I wanted to keep that live feel.

They are what they are, me and a couple of friends dicking around drunk with synthesisers in my studio in Yokohama over the last few years. The project name is Cataluma for the three of us, whereas I just use Babaluma for my solo work.

Having said that, there is always room for improvement! I'm certainly not a great mix engineer, as I only mix three or four tracks a year, (whereas I am mastering every day), so I will definitely take your comments into consideration if I ever feel like doing a remix. At the moment I'm just glad they are out there and behind us!

Thanks once again for all the great positive feedback, I'm hugely influenced by the ambient, krautrock, dub, electronic and industrial music of the 70's through to the 90's, so my influences are pretty wide. If you like this there's loads more of my Babaluma stuff on my SoundCloud page.           http://hermetechmastering.com : http://www.discogs.com/artist/Gregg+Janman : http://soundcloud.com/babaluma
