Many different influences come together in this album: from the electronic to the ethnic, downbeats both super slow and potent, harmonies that are eccentric and soundscapes that are out there. The result? A style highly individualistic, highly unmistakable. Written against the backdrop of Russia’s old and overpopulated cities, it reflects the gulf between urban life and that of the countryside. It speaks of how the city’s lack of calm robs its people of health and, eventually, human freedom. Listen carefully and hear the composer describe how existence, activity and thought are getting packaged in ever tighter boxes as the islands for the mind’s free development slowly slip away under the rising tide of the babble of banal information...
