I was using my presonus firebox since I start produce...like 2,5 years ago...and never I use other audio card, at stage, and at studio...
After some firewire problems I decide to get a USB2.0 Audio card, and choose the Native Instruments Audio Kontrol 1, cause I read good things about the Cirrus Logic converter present in that piece...
I plug now and play one live project here, and I can hear a different sound...the high frequencies are a bit more present and I can feel the oposite of a "smooth" sound...but not crispy...like more transparent...
I think the firebox converter are the same level of that NI audio card...for this I feel a bit strange that difference. I have a Fast Track here too, that sounds same of the firebox...but the NI sounds different...
this can be something not normal..or just I get a better converter... ?
I wanna know opinions of ppl that have experience with more devices...you hear difference??? small..hugee??
thanks in advance guys

to really compare you would need to have the 2 and switch from one to a other while listening and to not even see the units..(cause there is some placebo for sure that tricks your ears and brain, only blind testing can really tell you the truth cause the difference can be small between good converters) but yes me i always felt a different sound when switching interface . but the more expensive the more they all sound the same ,except the colored ones like apogee. something to keep in mind is what converters is used mean nothings, it s the circuit around it , quality of the components used ,the clock... |
