Can't get a decent beatmatch when using Live's session view.

Well, not exactly.
I can get beautifully tight beatmatching when using the arrangement view or, in the session view, if I set the first beat of a clip as the 1 and manually enter the BPM, which then snaps everything in time so I don't have to manually warp.
However, if I want a track to play in full (all the stuff before that first beat) and I manually warp the track as tight as I can (including checking to see that the clip start is marked exactly on the first transient and not a bit over), I can get another launched track to sit well with it. It always seems to launch a bit too soon with Launch set to 1 bar and I get horrible galloping.
I don't encounter this at all when I mark the first kick/beat as 1 and start clips like that, but what about my intro track, or tracks I want to play in their entirety?
Also, when manually warping tracks that Live will read as, for example, 145.99 - Even if I know for a fact that the track is 146, and I place my markers exactly on the transient of each beat, Live will then read it as 146.1 or something just a bit off. If I set the BPM to 146, then my warp markers land up in the middle of my kicks.
Once again though, this doesn't occur at all when I set the 1 Marker to the first kick of a track. Even then, by tying in the correct BPM, my markers are automatically perfectly in place without me having to do anything (as long as the 1 is placed precisely)
Any ideas on what I'm doing wrong? (And this all from a DJ perspective)

That's why I use Mixmeister!
Trance is tricky on BPMs...
Try this:
If you know for sure the tracks bmp, set the first marker, then right click on the yellow square.
Choose: "Warp xxx BPM from Here"
Then, the rest of track will be played at that speed.
Just listen out how it sounds... |

Hmmm, just tried that and the same problem. I set the 1 right at the beginning of the track and set the BPM correctly (it's just off by .1 slower) but as soon as I enter the correct BPM and say Warp From Here 147BPM, the markers begin to fall in the middle of the kicks. If I manually move them to the transient, then the BPM changes to .1 faster and my mixes don't work.
Still though, if I set the 1 to the first kick and warp from there, then everything is peachy. |

when I play full tracks in my live set, I set the first warp marker on the first kick drum and that's the only marker I set. The rest tend to fall in line rather easily, but you need to make sure that the first marker is the first transient of the kick. Although I don't use ableton to dj other stuff, so who knows....

Problem solved, I was being a silly and wasn't putting the 1's on the kicks unless it was going to be my cue point.
Thanks a lot Mubali. |
