Can i use speakers for monitors?

I have an EV amplifier and I want
to buy monitors, all monitors working
with amplifiers which are in the monitors,
can I use my amplifier and buy some
speakers without amplifier?????
it will cost me less than monitors...
Can I have the same sound with this?
and if I can, what speakers can I use for that?
(My amplifier is working on 8ohm)

If you want to use your amp you can passive monitors, which need an amp to power them..Regular speakers do not compare to monitors since they have coloured sound, meaning they have artificial boosts in some frequencies to make them sound good (to make you buy them) Good monitors on the other hand are flat meaning they give you a true picture of your sound, if its crap it will sound crap if you make it sound good on them it will translate well on any other system..

If you have good Hi-Fi speakers (Really good, not the ones that you get with a mini stereo system) you can use them. Tannoy for examples uses the same elements for both their studio line and Hi-Fi line.

remember that most Hifi speakers are not shielded, and need to stand very broad apart to get a good sound, just check most demo rooms...
i would still go for shielded monitors for music production/creation and a good Hfi system for checking your mixes, preferably in your own demo room....   |
