If the scene is dying it is because of the fact that anyone can download a sequencer and plugins and start making a quick ''cheap'' version of psytrance, and then again, anyone can create a record label, and release crap tracks on it,and fill our scene with these ''begginer psytrance'' tracks, wich makes me hate most compilations out there.

+1

Please don't attack me for this but this is how i see it - i'm not judging anyone

the psy scene is dying (if it is) because anybody can download a track without paying for it. Most psy DJs out there (rightly or wrongly) are paid next to nothing, so the temptation to download mp3s for free is huge - you have to keep changing a set, right - so sales are low and the labels and artists don't get the money they deserve.

one well known international psy artist we know sold around 600 cds of his last album (not many really) it would be interesting to see how many people had downloaded it for free - i suspect several thousand

there are good and bad compilations out there but what i think is good, you might think is bad and vice versa. you could argue that the people still releasing stuff are keeping things going despite everything. Good on 'em I say.

one final point - just because the music is given freely or that it is made by someone who is unknown does not make it bad music. There are loads of examples of once awesome artists that are now well known and well paid but produce awful music

It's true technomedics. A friend of mine had a release coming up and told me the cd was ready for download on several pirate sites the day it was released. Makes you wonder...

And yes, there are a lot of well known artists out there that always get contracts and they produce horrible stuff.

Then there are a few exceptions such as OOOD, (your latest album is absolutely awesome) and Ott who have managed to keep up with the times..., but the majority of wellknown artists produces crap imo !

On the other hands there are unknown artists out there who produce awesome sound and don't get a release, simply because well known labels are scared of bringing someone new out there, after all they don't sell a lot of cd's anymore...           Upavas - Here And Now (Sangoma Rec.) new EP out Oct.29th, get it here:
