Hi all, for those of you that dont know this is Chris of Mindoutpsyde based out of Iowa City. We have been doing as much as we can in the last couple of years to spread the word of psy throughout iowa, and seem to have done a pretty good job so far. however, we could always use outside help from goaheads across the planet... the purpose of this thread is to show any trancers looking for an optimal schooling experience to look into the university of iowa, and for others with suggestions of other up and coming places that are good for psy lovers.
first off: iowa's scene is fresh but rapidly growing. there are parties regularly around the area and seem to draw a very energetic, great vibin crowd. With more and more trancers from the outside coming in i think we may very well be able to blossom iowa into the next generation of psy, interconnection and awareness. and heres why...
1-Iowa City ranks #1 in the country with the highest rate of imported students, with various cultural happenings and a very open attitude towards things
2-Iowa City also ranked this year as the 3rd most valued place to live!
3-things are very cheap (the school especially), with the university ranking as one of the most prestigious schools in the country (especially for its cost). In addition to an extremely cheap cost at the university (instate tuition is 5,800 a year!), there is so much room for all the students so learning is much easier. I have heard that the coast's universities are so full that many people cant even find a seat in class! you would never have that problem here.
4-the bars/all night venues are prevalant, the air is very clean, the town extremely liberal (yes, this is iowa , the people vibrant and the energy high (just maybe not fully directed in the right place){but thats where psy trance and you all come into play }
5-eastern iowa is also basically right in the middle of the midwest, with many major cities within a 4 hour drive (chicago, minneapolis, milwaukee, madison, omaha, st louis, kansas city, ect), so there are always trance gatherings in the area.
so basically the point of this thread is to convince any trancers looking for a place to go to school to look into the university of iowa! look into it as im sure youll all be pleasently surprised by all the benefits of coming here.
I know it probably sounds like im working for the city bureau or something, but we just want to see things blossom into something iowa has never seen before, with an even greater general attitude and a higher energy through the presence of psy, and from those that bring it full power
just some food for thought!
Also, im just curious, does anyone else know of any up and coming cities in the country with a good psy scene? if so post it here to show goaheads on the outisde a great place to live if they come to the US! |

hey chris, sounds like a fun town
i found the following facts on the wikipedia page:
In 2004. Forbes Magazine named Iowa City the third Best Small Metropolitan Area in the United States.[4]
Utne Magazine ranked Iowa City eighth in its 1997 survey of "America's 10 Most Enlightened Towns".[5]
In June 2006, Kiplinger's rated Iowa City #10 on its list of the Top 50 Smart Places to Live.

Wow.
This definitely something worth considering.
How good is the music dept. @ Iowa State?
What's the weather like throughout the year?
And most importantly... how good is the weed? and what are typical prices?
(you can pm the answer to the last one if you want)

Zeve (zik maybe?), is that you that was at interfuse? ha, i remember if so great chats man
Abrahm is actually majoring in Neuroscience, which the university is very reputable for. im doing anthropology, which is also a big part of the univ. other major fields studied there are psychology, anything medical related, ect. but many fields are studied.
iowa state is pretty boring, i warn you! its about 2 hours west of iowa city and has almost no trance gatherings in that area. iowa city area would be your best bet.
are there any other small university towns in the us that are slangin psy? |

This thread just made my day. As Lauryn said, you psyowa guys rock! Nelito probably agrees with me when I say that you guys represent the spirit of the American trance scene... If the universe ever sends me that way, you bet I will plan it around one of your gatherings. Keep up the good work! Can't wait for a party in the middle of some wicked corn field Also, Konundrum asks the right questions. Always listen to him
