Greetings fellow trancers,
I'm getting a new mac for my studio and can't decide whether to go for a powerbook or powermac.
I need to install a new soundcard with midi, sdif and optical so i can run the computer in conjunction with my analogs and digi mixing desk.
I like the idea of a powerbook purely for it's size but i can't help but feel a tower would be more robust and upgradable.
Can you help me decide guys? |

hey,
i would go for a new mac book pro or the new g5 imac with these intel-thingies. check apple.com. thing is, that you´ll probably have to wait, ´cause the software and third party devices have to be transportet to the new platform, which can take about half a year or so.

If u already own a pci-card...it's possible to make it into pci-xpress (at least for M-Audio cards I know for sure), maybe other companys can do the same....dunno...
B.t.w...I'd go for the tower version...and not the intel, but that's my choice |

Cheers for advice BLIXeM,
I just read that PCI slots are being phased out over the next couple of years so i guess express is the way to go.
Do you know are there many pci express sound cards about? i just searched google with very few if any results.....

I've got a Powerbook G4 1.67Ghz with 1GB Ram and works fine for me and if I will need more memory I could change it in the future..
In my personal opinion a G4 is the best choice for now and I'm really sad about the new mac with the intel processor..
Anyway I guess is better that you buy what fit's your necessities and not what is new or faster...
(Remember that a lot of people can produce great music just using Cubase 5..)
