Hello,

I'll be in California for a few weeks and I was wondering what stores in the S.F / L.A area that are worth visiting?

I made a quick search but found nothing that really gave a good answer.

The stretch of shops and boutiques on Rodeo Drive is only three blocks long. It begins at Wilshire Boulevard on the south, and runs north to Santa Monica Boulevard, where the commercial section of the street gives way to an affluent residential neighborhood. But those three short blocks constitute the most famous shopping district in America, and probably the most expensive three blocks of shops in the world.

It is here that the rich & famous do their shopping, and where tourists window-shop while trying to spot movie stars on the fabled street.

The most celebrated clothing designers in the world have boutiques here: Armani, Gucci, Christian Dior, Coco Chanel, Ralph Lauren, Valentino... The jewelry stores boast names like Cartier and Tiffany. Other nearby stores include I. Magnin, Neiman Marcus, Saks Fifth Avenue, Yves Saint Laurent, & Pierre Deux.

I would suggest you visit Melrose Avenue.
It's one of the most unique, bizarre & funkiest streets in L.A.
Also, be sure to visit the 3rd Street Promenade in Santa Monica.

Have fun.

In San francisco, i can recomend Haight street.
From Stanyan to Central

In addition to unique Boutique like shops with lots of cool clothes there are also many hippy and counter culture oriented stores

Some of note include :
Ceiba records (though its a trance clothes store and no real music)
Distractions (killer out fits and good downtempo and breaks if you like that)
Reverb (formerly F8, the US's only fully dedicated Trance store i think)

and a personally favorite just off Haight on Page and Ashbury is :
Love of Ganesha (this is a indian based store that has some of the most beutiful tapestries, indian art work and clothes i have ever seen, and is run by 2 very nice and sweet ladies)

I would suggest Venice Beach....If you've never been, it's a cool place to go.           assumption is the mother of all fuckups.

Thanks for all the replies. I was looking for some more 'alternative' and electronic music stores, and it looks like I'll be visiting some of your recommendations. I am by no means a hippie, but I always like visiting stuff with an edge
