Hello ppl.
I've got the following email. I'm not used with american laws BUT I had such a great time with californian
outdoor parties, I'll be so sad if we were not able to do it anymore

AB1941 passed the California Assembly on May 28th, 2002 with a 79-0 vote, and is
currently making its way through the State Senate.

The "California Anti-Rave Bill" could have a devastating impact on Late Night Culture
throughout the state by holding promoters liable for any drug abuse or
related harms experienced by patrons at events. If this law passes, it may stop rave
and electronic dance culture dead in its tracks as promoters are no longer able to hold
events because of the
legal and criminal consequences. This is like making baseball teams
criminally liable if someone at a baseball game drinks too much beer. This bill takes the
burden of personal
responsibility off the shoulders of individuals and places it on the
shoulders of promoters.
Instead of encouraging people to make safe, healthy, informed choices,
this legislation makes promoters responsible for all of it.

The San Francisco Late Night Coalition encourages you to act now to prevent Bill AB1941 from becoming law!

How Will Bill AB1941 Affect San Francisco Late Night Culture?

* This Legislation would add new requirements to the already complex event permitting process.
* Specifically targets events with electronic music, dancing and the potential capacity of 500+ people.
* Requires promoters to be certified of their awareness of drug use and signs of drug use at a party.
* Will hold promoters liable of any drug abuse or harms to their patrons.
Singles out Late Night Events for a higher level of scrutiny and a more difficult permit process.
* Will make it harder to have outdoor events.

WHOLLY S#$T!!! that sucks!!!! This cannot be!!! Please nothing like this should happen. I like the underground scene how it is now. There are enough strict regulations as of now.
Now there gonna close down the remaining underground scene too. thats sad!!! I guess California doesnt know how to make its nightlife better. I mean what is there to do at night on the weekends if all the clubs and stuff are closed down.

stuff like this is nothing new... places like orlando, chicago, and new orleans have already gone through this kind of thing. in chicago, dj's can be arrested, be put in jail, and have their equipment confiscated for performing @ a party that does not have the proper permit. in the case of new orleans, the authorities have been trying to use the 'crack-house' laws that were passed in the '80s to shut down events and prosecute promoters of 'rave' events under the premise that they (the promoters, NOLA's Freebass Society in particular) are knowingly allowing and encouraging drug use at their events. as a result, things such as glow-sticks, pacifiers, vicks, and the like were declared to be drug paraphenalia... and individuals could be prosecuted for possession of such items! fortunately, the courts have finally listened to reason and dismissed the banning of such items in new orleans, but such laws are still in the books in places like central florida and a few other places here in the states...

Lets hope for the best. If we lose California, trance takes a huge hit.
Or maybe this is just what we need? Nothing like some contraversy to stir things up.           Both teams played hard

Well, if this passes, go to a bar, drink AS MUCH AS YOU CAN, like... get reaaaally wasted. Alcohol poisoning would be best.

... and then sue the bar for selling you alcohol.           http://www.myspace.com/Hooloovoo222

well hopefully we will rise above.
This reminds me of what happened in England in the early 90's. Now London is the dance capitol of the world.
Maybe this is exactly what this scene needs.           Both teams played hard

Oh my god!
SAD
Well, I always said America was narrow minded in some fields.
Like the alcohol issue, where you can drink only at the age of 21 (???????) etc.
They don't understand it would make things only worse.

Sometimes it makes me think that Israel isn't so bad after all...           Majority is never right!

candy, you said it!

the good ole's US of A is fucked up in some MAJOR ways.

Israel is paradise in some ways compared to the US. believe me, i live in the USA so i know what i'm saying.           this sentence might be false.
