you shouldn't take the professional monitor reviews too seriously... they get paid to review.
read some user reviews on gearslutz.com they have some really good discussions on monitors with examples and stuff, so check it out.
in my opinion you should save some money and get the dynaudio bm6a or bm6a mk2, you will shave at least a year of bad mixes that result of cheap monitors.
i started from cheap monitors to..and over a course of 3 years upgraded to better monitors and in the end when i got the dynos i realized that in the beginning (when all the producers told me to buy the dynos and i didnt want to wait and save...) i should have saved money for 6 months or a year and bought them...that would have saved me 2 years of not trusting my monitors...
on the way to the dynos i passed behringer truth 2030, samson rubicons, adam a7 , krks... (all in the same room) and not one of those gave results that came close to dynaudio. i always had to guess whats going on in the below 100hz..and with the adams i also had to get used the the bright sound, it can get overwhelming sometimes. adam a7 is a great monitor but without a sub it more suited for acoustic music production.
good luck man.

I gotta be honest; I'm really liking the look of the Dynaudio BM 6A Mk II.
I'm pretty sure we can get them here in South Africa, but I don't know if I'll be able to demo in my city.
Could I honestly take the chance and buy the BM 6A monitors without listening to them?
If all you guys are saying not to waste my money on entry-levels like Behringer, KRK or Alesis... then I'll rather save for 2 months.
I'm thinking that the Genelec 2030A might have a slightly small cone, thus not enough bass. The Adam A7 seems like a good contender, although you say it can be a bit bright.
If Amon Tobin uses BM 6A monitors, that's good enough for me! That guy produce some trippy breaks.

Haven't seen Fostex at all in south Africa...
I've read of the PM1 monitors though... looked pretty solid for entry-levels.

Take in account the size of your room, I think it's a very important fact. Big monitors on small rooms is not a good idea

Is there a way to counteract this? For now i'm living in a small place, am i forced to buy 'lighter' monitors?
~thx~

I would say that acoustic room treatment is the only way. If the monitor is too big for your room and it's not treated acoustically you will get bad results.

the correct answer would be, dont buy anything until you had the chance to listen to it, but with dynaudio bm6 you cant go wrong. a significant amount of dance music producers use them and prefer them over any other monitor in that price range.
i can give you one example...infected mushroom tried alot of monitors (expensive onces) and still prefer the dynaudio bm6a.
but you should be aware that your room acoustics will have a big impact on what you hear coming out of the monitors. |

the competion is hard in that price range, p11a,8040a,focals... any of these could be better for you, if you buy wihtout listening you ll never know.
but yes the bm6a are good, you could buy them blindly and learn them, low end translate well ,low mids less in my experience |

Any thoughts on the Yamaha HS80M?
The NS10 was very popular, but I've heard that they sound "terrible".
So I'm not sure if Yamaha is for me... |

Also in that new interview with erez eizen from infected mushroom he mentioned he used ALOT of monitores during all hes years and he said Dynaudio BM6a is the best one for him, he could mix a track in any room with those without a problem =)
And the guy know how to get nice results for sure.

I wouldn't buy very expensive monitors as first monitors. I'd recommend you to go for cheap good ones

lol man,but yes it s all about knowing the monitors but with the money they make they could buy better ones and have better mix imo (even if bm6a are very good ), i don t understand why they stick to bm6a only.with all the gears they use they deserve a high end monitoring , it s their weak link for me |
