If I was to buy one hardware digital synth right now, I would not get the Virus. Reason being that there are other synths that come very close to the Virus sound (and surpass it, but that is down to taste).

I would most likely get a Nord Lead, or even a Korg Prophecy (a software editor is now available to delve into the abyss that is the Prophecy and make killer sounds) if I was short on cash.

Peace out.

+1
maybe yahama an1x could be nice too , it s too long i haven t used one so no idea but from memory it was good underated va ...
these synths like prophecy, nord rack1/2,micro modular,an1x and more you find them for the price of a plugin ,it can be intresting to bring something different .

an1x can sound surprisingly analog vintage by lisetning this demo on my crappy speakers, have to check on monitors to ear if i m not dreaming..
it went under the radar cause of how it look, the interface and crappy presets but many rate it better than nords and virus as a VA .

Yup, add the Korg Z1 to that list.

By the way that Olo Garb dude that makes them demos is some kind of mental synth genius.

Peace out.

Over the years I have been advised the following VSTS are pretty standard:
- Albino - Vanguard
- Korg vst bundle legacy cell, M1 etc (you can get a good deal on this off Korg)
- Vengeance soundsets (for drums)
and newer stuff I give a +1 to buying.
- Big ones - Turnado - Zebra - Nexus - Gladiator - Predator - Discovery etc
- I've found lots of nice smaller companies doing good sounding VST's speak to them and see what packages they can offer you maybe?
some offering free synths that are good and more powerful ones or versions for £ & deals
The HG fortune stuff sounds nice

have a look around tho and try to listen to what you like before you buy.
Hardware Virus/Nord shop around Nord2 sometimes go for good price but someone explained any nice synth can get you good sounds so try different ones.
You can buy or make percussion instruments yourself cheaply and a good mic doesn't go amiss on the equipment list.
I've also heard there are "clones" of some synths/old classics becoming available for a fraction of the price with circuit bending facilities added IE the classic 303 this could be interesting as you basically get a brand new synth/machine with brand new circuits for a lot less so more chance of lasting.

with all that money u are wastin on synths vst u could buy some realy nice hardware synth... which in my opinion is much cooler and nicer soundin than vsts...altho is less practical ...

I've thought about it, but which hardware synths are worth the money? i've only heard about the virus ti. But if i bought that, would it cover up for all my needs?

Another thing about the hardware, is that im not too experienced when it comes to music production and maybe i would'nt be able to get the full potential from a virus ti. maybe it's better to learn all i can on my soft synths first?

you could check a second hand nord lead 2...
or if u want full analog u could check DARK ENERGY or the ones from david smith instruments... i think they all are very worth. ..

after i got my hands in a hardware synth i felt a lot more improvement in the sound design of the sounds. its important tho that u are familiar with synthetize ( what the modules are used for... what s oscilator, envelopes lfos etc... )but u can learn it with vst or hardware ...doesnt matter....

also there s the down side.. like u cant save ur projects with the vsts presets that u created in the track.... u have to keep bouncin everything for the audio to create a new sound... but this helps to improve ur skills in design of sounds aswell... and tbh i felt that way to be a lot better than open 50 midi tracks with 50 different vsts instances.... i found this more inspiring to work editin the audios loops u have created with the synth..

if u have a fixed place to put ur equipments and are aiming for quality not practicism... i d definetly go hardware synth...

as for the virus ...i would not go virus not because its bad but because i just dont like it for placebo reasons lol... feels like virus has no specific identity...like a nord lead does....

but it harder to get your own sound in term of production with a synth everyone and their dog use , same with plugins and many sound in the same family as the virus.

Do you know the difference between the TI Polar and the TI2 mate?
