I Think that acoustics must bee active. Active speacers have powerful amp that didn't destroy them. And speacers will be sound clearlier i think, coz active acoustics devolopers do amps for exactly type of thay speacers.
It's all about a prise... I recomending you Dynaudio BM6A. This monitors sounds realy clear and soft. They are realy best.
Or if you wanna a lot of bass for not big prise try MACKIE Tapco S series.
Peace!

another thought to add....
if uve got more power on the amps than the speakers, ull have to give less output from amp to speakers, even for a full sound, thus reducing distortion frm amp.
my point being, buy an amp with more power output than speakers.

Yes that sounds just about the most stupidist things ive ever heard on this forum ......
distortion from the amp??? i think its the speakers that give distortion.. as well as the advise this guy is giving.

i think full on wants to buy some speakers for events and not for music production-correct me if im wrong full on!
so an armada of dynaudios would be nice but way to expensive and not a real solution... about the amp & speakers relation > look at spindrifts post..he said it all...amp with more outgoing watts than the speakers!!

To have an underpowered amp is a very common reason for blown speakers.
It might not seem logical, but what happens if the amp have too less power is that you tend to push it too hard resulting in clipping.
A clipped signal can be very destructive, especially to the tweeters.
So the advice I always got has been to always use an amp with more than enough power.

About impendance, I'm not really a PA specialist.
But what i understand an 8 ohm system would generally sound better. But as always opinions differ. 4 ohm could give a more compressed sound which some people seem to like.
The distortion should be lower though on an 8 ohm system.
Of course at the cost at using double the wattage for the amps.

ok i see!

now a question!
in home speakers, amps usualy its better for the amp to be less watts than the speakers to avoid speaker blowing!
this rule doesnt apply on p.a. to?

Wow, what a nice discussion we're having here, I already learnt a lot! Thank you all!

Yes, I wanna buy a sound system to make small parties!

Up to now I'm going for an 8 ohms system (both amps and speakers) and amps a little more powerfull than what speakers would require.

orange-atropa, I think it's because at home no one cares about how to use the sound system, but at parties we are supposed to have a technician around, and he will make sure you won't turn the amps power to a level in with you blow up your speakers.

Please keep discussing this issue, it's very important to me.

my advice mr jasonsway.....read the following article....it tells you about the seven or eight types of distortion found in amplifiers....its quite educative actually...

It's the same for all speakers.
Ok, if you tend to blast at full level wheather or not your amp is giving more than enough power it might be some truth in that a powerful amp might be dangerous.
But with normal use it's easier to blow them by clipping an underpowered amp.           (``·.¸(``·.¸(``·.¸¸.·`´)¸.·`´)¸.·`´)
